India finds a $40bn friend in Iran

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/GA11Df07.html

-snip-

In its US$40 billion deal with the National Iranian Oil Co (NIOC), India committed to import natural gas from Iran over a 25-year period and to develop two Iranian oil fields and a gas field. Iran will sell the liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India at a price linked to Brent crude oil. According to the agreement, India will pay $1.2 plus 0.065 of Brent crude average, with an upper ceiling of $31 per barrel. Iran will ship 5 million tonnes of LNG to India annually, with a provision to increase the quantity to 7.5 million tonnes.

As part of the deal, India's ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) gets a 20% share in the development of Iran's biggest onshore oilfield, Yadavaran. The Indian company will also get 100% rights in the 300,000-barrel-per-day Jufeir oilfield. The stake in Yadavaran translates into 60,000 barrels per day of oil for India. Significantly, Chinese state oil company Sinopec (China National Petroleum and Chemical Corp) operates the Yadavaran field. With the deal signed in Delhi, India will now hold a 20% stake in Yadavaran, Iran 30%, while China retains its existing 50% share.

1. Sorry friend, but this will make Bushco's desire to invade even stronger
Ever read your PNAC? The reason for these invasions is to prevent any other superpower from arising via the control of the oil spigot. With a large cheap workforce, the bomb, and an up and coming economy, India is starting to become a threat to Bushco. Thus, they will invade Iran, just to starve India. Heck, why do you think we invaded Iraq? Not because we needed their oil, but because we could control the EUs' oil spigot.

Yep, we'll be going into Iran, followed probably by Syria. Saudi Arabia is save for now, but sooner or later if Bushco isn't checked, SA we'll be on the list.

4. Yes, yes I did.
Makes the case for Bushco invading Iran even stronger. After all, wasn't Haliburton doing business in Iraq(both legal and illegal) almost up until the invasion. If I remember correctly they were also drilling in Iraq also.

2. I dunno
That is after all OUR petrochemicals we're talking about. Just what the hell does India think it's doing with OUR petrochemicals??
<sarcasm off>

Pretty slick of the Iranians if it works though, at least for the short term. Allowing 2 close, strong powers to have majority interest may not fare well in the long term.

5. we cannot invade
we do not have the hardware to to a full scale invasion of iran nor the manpower to do it. global reaction would be swift and would be a disaster for the america people. we won`t invade-the irians can fight back.

then corrected himself
saying, Iraq and POSSIBLY Iran
