MA State Party Chairman Opposes Anti-Abortion Roemer As DNC Chair
WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party said Monday that it would be "extremely foolish" for Democrats to chose someone who opposes abortion rights to lead the party.

Phil Johnston, who heads the Democrats in losing presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry's home state, spoke out amid news of former Rep. Tim Roemer's decision to seek the national party's chairmanship.

"The fact that we lost the 2004 presidential race by a narrow margin should not result in the abandonment of our party's core principles," Johnston said.

Democrats, he said, can only regain the White House by choosing someone who can articulate the values of the party and strengthen its grass-roots organization.

"It would be extremely foolish if the DNC were to be led by a chair who agrees with the Bush administration's position on abortion," Johnston said.

2. Great to hear someone in the DNC actually echoing our words...
hope this helps put the nails in the coffin of Roemer's bid. You know if he's saying it
aloud, there are alot of others saying WTF???! about Roemer's candidacy.

3. It's good to know that my state's party chairman sees
strengthening the grassroots as a way to retake the White House

If we start now we can retake the House and Senate too

Maybe even the Governor's Office- which by the time it's to be fought over in MA a Repug will have held it for 16 straight years

4. How do you think that will go?
Would MA residents vote Repuke for Governor again? They have to be smarter than that after all that's happened in the last four years with the neocons.

5. The top 2 candidates so far - Reilly and I think Capuano
(Although, 2nd place after Reilly could be anyone)aren't tied too closely to the State House, which is the institution the Repugs like to run against

I've got my fingers crossed that we throw Romney out which would seriosly dent his prospects for higher office
