Need info about Full Page Newspaper Ads - letters

I know during the previous election cycle (and before) of course, Different individuals, organizations and groups took out full page newspaper ads with letters in order to get their message out there.

Can anyone remember who did this? Any links or information would be much appreciated.

1. George Soros, Sean Penn

Those are 2 that I remember. Soros took out a 2 page spread in the WSJ on reasons to defeat George W. Bush. Sean Penn's full page letter about Iraq was in the Washington Post I think.
