There is less poverty in today's Republican America than there has ever been in any human society ever, by far. Many many black people are voting Republican now because they see the truth of this. In fact, "poverty" in today's Republican America would have passed for Upper Middle Class in most of the history of human society.

The war in Iraq was and is absolutely the right thing to do, for Freedom, for America and for the Iraqis. It is THE essential part of the War Against Islamic Terror and Barbarity. Either it works and drags Islam into the 21st Century, of vast portions of the Arab/Muslim world are destined to get nuked.

2. CNN: Census Bureau says 1.3 million more slipped into poverty last year
Poverty spreads

Census Bureau says 1.3 million more slipped into poverty last year; health care coverage also drops.

August 26, 2004: 1:54 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The number of Americans living in poverty jumped to 35.9 million last year, up by 1.3 million, while the number of those without health care insurance rose to 45 million from 43.6 million in 2002, the U.S. government said in a report Thursday.

The percentage of the U.S. population living in poverty rose to 12.5 percent from 12.1 percent -- as the poverty rate among children jumped to its highest level in 10 years, the Census Bureau said in an annual report. The rate for adults 18-to-64 and 65-and-older remained steady.

The bureau also said the share of aggregate income for the lowest 20 percent of Americans fell to 3.4 percent from 3.5 percent.

6. Social Security is a crisis. Less poor people. Everyone in Iraq is happy.
Right wingers keep making insane statements without any basis in fact. With the right wing noise machine of Faux and hate radio, they get people to believe them especially since the so called liberal media plays along.

8. I see little that I would call poverty...
in the US compared to what I saw in Somalia and in refugee camps on the Turkish border after Desert Storm. THAT is poor. Just some perspective.

15. When you drive past dead bodies...
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 05:29 PM by Gay Ranger
everyday like driving past dead deer in Texas, or tossing a sleeve of crackers into a crowd can cause a riot, then it is as bad as I have ever seen it.

I am not denying that there are poor people here, all I am saying is I have seen much worse.

18. Is that how bad the US poor should get before we attempt to stop the tide?
More people this year are living on the streets or eating one meal a day in poorly lit and unheated housing. Should we just say "oh heck, the poor aren't as poor as some so lets ignore the situation until it deteriorates into Somalia or Calcutta".

By the way, have you ever worked a soup kitchen? The scene you describe about crackers in a crowd is not too dissimular.

9. Robert Rector in, diarrhea out.
The propaganda from the Heritage Foundation (et al) has been wildly successful.

One prominent feature of wiley wingnuts is they always seem to suck up, digest and then vomit dominionist propaganda.

10. I'm not surprised they would say this.
That's what Republicans do. They twist or even fabricate the facts to fit their agenda.

The facts I've seen point to a shrinking middle class (over 3% income decline since 2000)replaced with a much larger underclass.

Here are some real results of Republican class warfare.

14. "There is less poverty in today's Republican America"
Absolute BS from a bunch of psycho lying nazis. There's much more poverty anytime a member of the nazi party gets in the White House, because they always crash the economy.

16. "in today's Republican America" now why does that turn of phrase
Seem a little disquieting. Hum, could it be that it resembles
"in feudal Europe" or "in Tudor England" or "in N _ _ _ Germany"? System or, in this case, political party BEFORE country.
