Poll question: Best politcal rag?
I used to read The Nation and liked it a lot but it made me angry and since it came weekly, I was always mad. I'm thinking about Mother Jones. What do you like and why?

1. I like Mother Jones, but I love The Nation...
I think that it's able to be more current than Mother Jones, since it's a weekly. However, Mother Jones will have some very interesting articles of more of an "overarching" nature than The Nation, since it's a monthly.

The New Republic is worthless, IMHO. They're firmly in the "liberal hawk" camp that bolsters the neocons. Peter Beinart is their editor, after all....

I'm also surprised you left out The American Prospect and The Progressive -- both are leftist political magazines as well.

2. I left them for you to add
I may not be as well versed as others in this arena. Actually, I got a trial of American Prospect and hated it. It's style is way too cold.

5. I can only subscribe to one
and the weekly nature plus the cryptic crossword edged The Nation past both MJ and The Progressive. I'll pick both of those up from time to time when they run a story on a subject I find particularly interesting.

Another good one to consider, although not properly a political mag, is Harper's. Their stories are informative, their monthly index of odd statistics delightfully insightful, and their stories on culture very useful to help sort out the chaff.

The Atlantic Monthly also runs political stories from time to time, but they strive for balance with wingnuts, something that keeps them off my list of worthwhile magazines for subscription.

4. I subscribe to
The Nation, The Progressive, In These Times, and Mother Jones. I love them all but in my opinion there is no contest, The Nation is the best

6. Couldn't vote...
cause my favorite is the Prospect which tends to use a stricter journalistic standard approach with its articles as well as with its opinion pieces. Their OP-Eds tend to use more facts to back up the opinions given--That's something that I truly appreciate....
