A pledge, advice and a call for $$$ from Nancy Pelosi
Conservatives have gathered in the nation's capital to celebrate George W. Bush's re-inaugural. And what, exactly, do you think they're celebrating?

That President Bush and his Republican Congress will soon have run this country so deep into debt that it will take generations to repair the damage? Or is it the fact that President Bush has publicly promised that no one will be held accountable for the mess in Iraq, despite mass deception about weapons of mass destruction, and despite the fact that we have lost more than 1,500 heroic soldiers with more than 10,000 wounded?

Personally, I don't feel much like celebrating. So I'm going to mark the occasion by pledging to do everything in my power to fight the extremist Republican's destructive agenda.

I encourage you to do the same by supporting the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for 2005. Please make a secure online contribution right now to tell President Bush that party time is over.

https://secure.dccc.org/win/default.aspx?id=inaugdccc

We urgently need your support if we are to make sure that the Republicans never get to "celebrate" the death of Social Security - one of the most successful government programs in U.S. history that has kept millions and millions of seniors out of poverty.

President Bush and radical Republicans in Congress have already begun the drive to privatize Social Security. We cannot allow them to destroy the foundation of a safe, secure retirement. In their arrogance, the Republicans have even admitted that their privatization scheme will necessarily mean cuts in benefits. It will also add TRILLIONS of dollars to the deficit!

Please contribute now to support the DCCC as we work full-time to save Social Security and change the balance of power in Congress with the 2006 mid-term elections.

https://secure.dccc.org/win/default.aspx?id=inaugdccc

People need to understand that these Republicans don't care about fairness or opportunity or even accountability. And they certainly don't care about the fundamental needs of most Americans. With your support, the DCCC will get the out the truth about George W. Bush's uncaring agenda for America.

Together we can work to change the balance of power in Congress with the mid-term elections. Together we can get out the facts about President George W. Bush's radical, uncaring agenda and promote the truth about values in this country.

Please stand with us by contributing to the DCCC online today. We need to have you back in the fight.

https://secure.dccc.org/win/default.aspx?id=inaugdccc

Democrats in Congress will be fighting the hard fights every day to protect the fundamental rights and needs of all Americans. I hope you will be standing with us.

With my sincere gratitude for your generous support and actions over the past year,

Nancy Pelosi
House Democratic Leader

P.S. -- While George W. Bush and his radical congressional allies are partying in D.C., you and I need to work even harder. We Democrats are united in our belief that President Bush is leading our country in the wrong direction. Only the continued efforts of all of us working together can prevent the worst from happening. Please act today for the future of America.

1. If she's supporting social security, she shouldn't endorse Roemer

3. My thoughts exactly.
They don't like Bush? They don't like what the conservative whackos have in store for us? THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, GODDAMMIT!!!!!! Don't just ask me for more money. I'm not opening my checkbook until I see some opposing from the opposition. If they give the party chairman's job to some big wuss, I farking quit. I will be an "I" and proud of it, and the Democrats will have to earn my vote like everybody else.

4. are you sure you want to believe that rumor?
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 11:00 AM by Cocoa
it's a rumor whose veracity is in doubt, and a rumor that is getting a lot of play in the Washington Times and the NY Post.

Aside from believing the rumor, are you sure you want to SPREAD it?

edit: and regarding Roemer himself, one good thing about him is that he's against NAFTA, which might be unique among the DNC chair candidates, and which I think is at the very top of what dems should stand for.

Roemer's pretty bad on TV, he's pro-life, and he was part of what I think was a whitewash of 9/11, but on the other hand he's anti-NAFTA and I think that should be pointed out.

5. if you have proof to refute Roemer's interest in reforming SS, post it
Many are anti-NAFTA, but that doesn't mean they'd
motivate and inspire a grassroots to work for the
Democratic party.

8. that article at MyDD was not convicing at all to me
I actually don't know after reading it what Roemer thinks about SS, and I definitely think the author's conclusions are not supported.

9. than in your opinion, it wasn't convincing, but doesn't refute it.
If you are going on gut feeling, that's not
going to refute what was posted. I am more than
happy to read what Roemer wants to do with
Social Security.

11. two very big problems
first, this thread was about Pelosi, and I think the Pelosi-Roemer link is extremely weak, which was my original point.

Second, the evidence this blogger claims of Roemer's intent to "destroy Social Security" just isn't evidence. It seems mostly to be based on Roemer's presence at this event. That's not evidence of anything. Nothing was provided of what Roemer said there, aside from some welcoming comments that said nothing about privitization or any other specific policies. And the part that the blogger put in boldface only mentioned Social Security in passing.

I have no idea what the Mercator Center is, or what membership in the center means about Roemer. Maybe it means Roemer is a disciple of Scaife, but that blog article sure doesn't demonstrate it.

7. My Senator from Michigan gave a press conference on SS
on Tuesday, along with Byron Dorgan, another Dem. Funny, it didn't cost her a nickel to stand in front of the cameras and speak the truth to the C-Span2 audience. What's so hard about that? Why should it require $$$$$ into somebody's coffers?
