ABC News piece slamming the Inaugural Parade - Banana Republic
is what it looked like according to George Will.

They compared it to the one in 1993.

They ended the segment saying maybe the parade part of the Inaugural should end if it has to be this unattractive.

1. Does George Will really say that?
It's gonna be a long four years, Frat Boy.

The rest of us can enjoy the Schadenfreude.

4. Yes, it was pretty funny. I knew they were critical during the Parade so
I was glad to see they included a segment during the nightly news.

2. Bob Scheifer on CBS w/Rather
pretty much agreeing with that.

paraphrasing: the amount of police shoulder to shoulder down Pennsylvania Ave, surrounding the limo etc. made for a somber show.

5. Can someone please explain to me
about the cops who came from all over the country to provide 'security' in DC today?

What was THAT about? I really don't understand it, and have never heard of such a thing before.

15. Thank you both for your insightful explanations
You dolls.

But, seriously - have you ever heard of anything like this before? I've lived in the DC area for 32 years, and this bullshit started with Fuckface's old man and his "victory" parade on Constitution Avenue after his so-called "Desert Storm" bullshit whatever-that-was.

That was memorable - tanks on Constitution Avenue. We agreed then that there was a militaristic mindset in the Bush head, but who would have dreamed that his spawn would be even worse?

It's these cops that I don't get. Who paid their travel expenses? Did they take vacation time? Are their communities paying for them to take off so that they can say they were here for this fucking coronation?

18. Yeah-but Scheifer intimated that the police presence was to protect
Bush from the terrorists, and linked it to 9/11. Seems to me he was being shielded from patriots.

9. I too heard George Will say it looked like something in a Banana
Republic. He said also it was beneath Washington DC to. It looked to militaristic, like tanks roling down the street. Then they asked Andy Card about the way this looked and he twisted it with propaganda speak.
I went looking for a transcript at ABC and did not find it.
Does anyone know where a copy could be found. I'd like toget it posted.

17. Change the Name
From the United Snakes of America to Bananastan!! The latter name would take less long to say and would be more accurate.

11. It's more like Hitler reviewing the troops...
...than anything Democratic.

It was 'unattractive' because the military should have nothing to do with a 'president' taking an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. (Which for Bush is a lie in and of itself).

What (used to) separate us from banana republics is that our country (used to) have a civilian CIC.

21. Nah, Hitler stood out in the open and troops were made to look at him.
Hitler also rode in an open limo. The little paper hanger was evil, vicious but he was not a coward.

13. Maybe shrub wanted to impress the planet
with how many people were willing to die for the leader of the most
powerful nation on earth.

Pompous ass, that he is, he probably figured it would scare all those
little Middle Eastern countries into accepting democracy, Amerkin style.
