War Room: Help Boxer by sending e-mails to Wolf Blitzer
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 01:52 PM by moggie12
Here's the link:
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?21

The idea here is to sound polite and appreciative (as much as this may gall you).

1) Thank Blitzer for having Boxer on the show
2) Tell him you agree with Boxer, that you think what she is saying and doing is important, or something along those lines.
3) Tell him you wish that he and CNN would give more coverage to Boxer.

No more than 5 or 6 sentences should do the trick, so no need to spend a lot of time doing this.

Please try not to sound extremely angry. The idea here is NOT to criticize Blitzer for his past inane comments or to rail at Bush, etc. etc, (although politely saying that you think Blitzer has been unfairly dismissive of Boxer's views, or objecting to what you thought was a loaded question during the interview, etc., is fair game). The idea is to let Blitzer and CNN know that there are thousands of us "average Americans" out here who want Boxer's reasoned, articulate views to be heard. The idea is to apply POSITIVE pressure.

You don't need to have seen the show. A general message of support is all that's needed.

Edited to add: CNN will post the transcript, but don't know how long this takes. Here's the link:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/wbr.html

(I titled this post "War Room" because it's an attempt to organize a rapid media response, in this case to help Boxer get her message heard. Would be interested in any feedback you have on me doing this, whether it's pro or con.)

1. Thank You for having Boxer as a Guest
I look forward to seeing more Boxer appearances as I strongly support her positions.

Something like that, perhaps?

Thanks for the link.

3. yeah, exactly -- media really listens to feedback, believe it or not
It's basically to say, "hey you morons, stop dismissing Boxer as a left-wing nut -- there's lots of us out here who are listening to her and think she's right." But to do in a "nice" way, which the media people are more likely to listen to.

Thanks to Wolf Blitzer for having Barbara Boxer on the show! Beyond any partisan politics, what Senator Boxer is doing is important to all Americans.

It is a basic citizens' right, to know more about who is at the helm, and it is what confirmation hearings are all about. Senator Boxer also understands that glitches in our voting system are not OK, and need to be fixed.

We look forward to seeing more of Senator Boxer on CNN, and to having her presented not as controversial but as a Senator merely doing the job she was elected for.

Thank you again!

xxxxxxxx,
SF

6. Done and done. What I wrote.
Mr. Blitzer,

At a time when one view dominates the political spectrum it is important that other voices are heard in the spirit of balance and fair play. Thank you for having Senator Boxer on your show. I believe her ideas and the work she is doing is important to our way of life in America. Although I have at times been at odds with the slant of some of your reporting, I am thankful that you allowed Senator Boxer the time to express her views on your show.

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

11. That's a great e-mail - the more they hear from Boxer supporters
the more afraid they'll be afraid to "dis" her. I've worked with reporters on local campaigns -- you need to "push back at them": They're amazingly responsive. Same is true of mational media, from what I can tell (they're basically sheep, slavishly following the "conventional wisdom)."

14. My E-Mail
Thanks for the link Moggie12.. :)

Here's a copy of what I sent:

Hi Mr. Blitzer. I am a constituent of Senator Barbara Boxer and I wish to relay to you my appreciation for inviting Sen Boxer on the show. In the spirit of Americanism I am both proud of Sen Boxer and proud to see her speaking out for her and her constituent's beliefs and questioning the President and his cabinet's actions. I feel this is a very important part of what defines us as a democracy.

I hope to see CNN continue to invite Sen Boxer (hopefully on a regular basis) because as I have related. I think it's very important to hear opposing views, especially when it concerns something as serious as war.

Questioning authority and criticizing the President is totally and historically patriotic as an American. And again, I really hope to see CNN continue to invite Sen Boxer. Thank you..

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." ~ President Theodore Roosevelt

Best of all, you're an action-oriented DUer, taking the time to write e-mails (my favorite kind of DUer.....)
