The US Army Reserve is almost of out of troops
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 09:44 AM by Stella_Artois

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2005/usar_memo-20dec2004.htm

Looks like an invasion of Iran will remain a pipe-dream, unless there is a draft.

The reserve has less than 40,000 troops left, the lack of active component forces has bled it white.

Bad Conduct , Undesirable, General, and dishonerable discharges and giving them another chance. Who knows, some of them may work out?
Or can we have a press gang?

6. That just increased his odds of something bad happening
I wish him luck. Hope he won't need it I actually think things were better under a draft. What does this say to anyone contemplating going into the Gaurd or the Reserves today? I'd stay out of the gound forces for sure.

20. This idea, unfortunately includes me...
I smoked a joint prior to my pre-deployment urinalysis to avoid being sent to Iraq. I was given an RE-3 general discharge for drug/alcohol abuse. I would hope I do not have to deal with dodging another deployment.

2. But if I channel
Donald Rumsfeld here--he would say--36,000--that's enough to invade a country! especially a panywaist Musselman country like Iran--

How about regular troops in reserve?

he invaded Greece. How hard can this be ?

8. Definition of terms.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 10:06 AM by trogdor
IMA - Individual Military Augmentee. Someone who doesn't go to drills once a month, but is generally available for training, support missions, etc.

AGR - Active Guard/Reserve. Someone who has a permanent job in a USAR unit. Some mechanics and unit clerks fall under this description.

TPU - Troop Program Unit. These are the traditional "one weekend a month, two weeks in the summer" units.

This is scary, though. Out of 200,000 soldiers, only 37,000 or so are currently deployable. It's like we don't have an Army Reserve anymore.

10. No. The National Guard is separate from the Reserves.
I'll bet the Guard units are having problems as well.

11. NPR covered that this morning. Within a year, we will be too short
of national gaurd troops. They have tripled their re-enlistment bonus to try to keep people in. At the next rotation of troops, we have problems.

13. Good. Less cannon fodder means fewer wars.
And, if they bring back the draft, watch how fast "Support Our Troops" bumper stickees disappear and how being a dove becomes popular again.

At least I hope something as drastic as the draft will shake some sense into the manipulated masses... GEEEEZ!

15. bright side: they won't be able to deploy the guard
to shoot protestors this time.

of course, since the cops have been militarized, they'll just do it themselves.

the gay people. If a soldier tried to come out of the closet now, his/her commanding officer would put his fingers in his ears and sing "La,la,la,la,la, I don't hear you."

21. Iraq?
If I was still draftable or still in the service, I would absolutely refuse to go. I would tell anybody in the government or military that I absolutely refuse to go into a country and kill poor people for the purpose of further enriching already rich jackasses here in my country. They could jail me, but I still wouldn't go.

I wonder if they are having crash courses in Persian.

Hell, i wonder if many of them realise they don't speak Arabic.

23. That really is what it ammounts to.
We are using our military force to shake them down for their oil;.
If we were not acting like Imperial Storm Troopers, I would feel differently about this war of choice. Good for you.
