W now holding press corps in open contempt.
Lets us remember the press corps will be there after W leaves town.

W may be crossing the line.

Expect more scandals.

1. He was incredibly arrogant at his last press conference.
What a bastard. He was practically ordering them around. And this after his previous "performance" where he issued the one question/no follow-up rule. :grr: :scared:

I can't watch him for extended periods of time, eg more than 30 seconds.

6. He's always held them in contempt.
He's famous (among journalists) for saying he questions the idea that the press represents the interests of the people. He has a point in a sense, but he didn't mean it as a populist put down of the corporate media, of course.

8. I believe his contempt is somewhat phony
It's an excuse to raise money, to bribe 'columnists'(they will continue even after *'s phony 'demand' that it be stopped), to propagandize and get *'s 'message' through the 'damn librul media filters'.

12. He holds them in contempt because he owns them.
To a sociopath like Bush, weak, fearful people like the press corps are objects of scorn and ridicule. He knows they fear him and wouldn't dare independently go after him.

They deserve our contempt as well, so in this one instance we can agree with Bush.

23. That'd be Carl Cameron whose wife worked for the BC04 campaign
He's the Fox News chief political correspondent. You may remember him from such hits as the fake Kerry manicure story or from his appearance in the movie Outfoxed where he gets chummy before a Bush interview.

Bush can't remember because he's a moran. It's not like he's never met the guy.

He made a big point before his first press conference out of how he was going to make the press be more dignified when asking questions, raise their hands and no calling out.

16. He behaves exactly like a schoolyard bully.
He struts, poses, smirks, ridicules, and speaks with contempt to the Press Room because they (exception Helen Thomas) ARE cowed school children.

The good news is that once someone knocks his stupid (and cowardly) block off, the crowd he has been abusing will TURN ON HIM with a VENGEANCE, just like the adoring crowds turned on Mussolini !

24. excellent point
sooner or later he will cross the line. it's appaling how much the press can take, ny times did apoligize for not doing its job as a newspaper in analyzing the actual threat of supposed wmds, the questioning during press conferences has been more intrusive and pointed (compared from a year ago), and I think this trend is only going to continue. Right now it seems like Bush really believes that since he won the election he is basically untouchable and doesn't even have to try, but it has to stop, he will cross the line sooner or later with the press. Right ?......

26. I have to go with Dumbya on this, they deserve contempt ....
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 07:58 AM by hadrons
part of the contempt he has for them is 1) he feels they're beneath him (its true, but Dumbya is beneath dog-shit), 2) just questioning him distrubs his sense of entitlement, 3) he knows they're cowards, 4) it plays to his weak-minded base, 5) he's a jerk

30. Yes, the Press Corp deserves the contempt!
They stood by and let the chimp* bully an old woman, and no one jumped in to help her.

If the Press Corp had a shred of decency, they would have WALKED OUT en masse, and boycotted
until Helen Thomas is restored to her rightful position in the Press Room.

I love to see him hit with real questions. I am holding hopes close

35. If I had been there, I would have said these things
My comments in bold, his in regular text:

Okay, let me see if I can dissect your question into separate parts. First, Americans pay a lot of taxes. They pay tax at the federal level, they pay tax at the state level, they pay tax at the local level. Americans do pay taxes.

You don't say! Why, we had NO idea that Americans paid taxes. What a brilliant statement of the obvious!

Secondly, I made the commitment to our troops, we'll fund them. And that's exactly what we're doing. We've got people in harm's way; I look forward to working with Congress to fund what is necessary to help those troops complete their mission.

They are in harm's way because of YOUR lies that Iraq had WMDs. They don't. They didn't. So the fact that they are IN harm's way is YOUR FAULT and you could change that, immediately, but you don't.

Thirdly, we have presented a plan in the past, and we'll present one here next -- earlier -- later on this -- in February, that will show we will cut the deficit in half. And it's obviously going to require cooperation with the United States Congress to make some very difficult decisions when it comes to funding the budgets.

Fourthly, we not only were attacked and needed -- therefore, needed to defend ourselves, we also had a recession.

Are you retarded or something? We were attacked by terrorists from Saudi Arabia and other countries. Not a SINGLE 9/11 terrorist was from Iraq or connected to Iraq in any way and you KNOW it. How disingenuous of you to try to connect the two. How dishonest. You should be ashamed of yourself. And as for the recession, what a copout. You've taken what was a mild recession and put us on the brink of a major depression. Oh good job, that.

And I felt it was very important to reduce the tax burden on the American people to get out of the recession. In other words, we were dealing with twin problems. And because of the tax relief our economy is growing forward.

Oh yeah, how's it "growing forward?" You can't even use the lousy housing starts stats anymore.

As you can see, I wouldn't be a White House press reporter long. Not even a day.
