Use Fundie Action Alerts against them!
Fundie group "Focus on the Family" has got an interesting action alert page where they are mobilizing to attack the media that spoke out against the Dobson Sponge Bob debacle, among other things.

LUTD has a blog item about SpeakSpeak.org who is suggesting that we use Focus on the Families CapWiz Action Alert's against them:
http://www.lightupthedarkness.org/blog/default.asp?view=plink&id=290

I think this is a great way to mobilize against these idiots. I fired off letters using their own action alerts to speak out against Focus on the Family. Here's the link if anyone else is game - http://capwiz.com/fof/home/

Keith Olbermann has been getting pounded with emials from these fools - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240/

He should appreciate the sense of humor of using their own tool against them!

5. I used this, and it works great.
I sent them my "Conservative" Sermon on the Mount. I'm kicking this because I worry that many did as I, and just used the "Action Alert" without responding to this thread. Thanks kerrygoddess, for providing these links.

6. I got a nice thank you
from Olbermann for sending a support email through their website. It appears that he got quite a few.

I think this is great idea to find these right wing action alerts and use them against them.

7. Do these people read? I went to the web site and they have
a link to buy the book, "America" by the folks from The Daily Show. Too funny. If they only knew half of what is in that book! Naked Supreme Court Justices, homosexuals, funny, funny stuff. They surely cannot read.

Used their link to tell the media what morons these people are. Need to thank them for the opportunity to use their dime to expose their nuttiness.

13. My contempt for Dobson exceeds my contempt for *
Dr. James Dobson has a HUGE army of rabid fundamentalist Christian followers. His "Focus on the Family" is a massive, organized, mature, deeply entrenched activism group. I am now 39 years old, and I remember as a kid hearing constantly about "Dr. Dobson" - he was a celebrity in the fundamentalist Christian community way back then (in the late 70's and early 80's).

He was famous back then for his book "Dare to Discipline", which endorsed beating the crap out of kids, in the name of the Lord. The Bible verse that was always quoted was Proverbs 23:13-14, which I quote verbatim: "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell."

At Dobson's urging, millions of fundamentalist Christian parents took that passage literally, and felt they were doing "the Lord's will, as He commanded in His Word" when they beat their children.

In fairness to Dobson, even as a child, I realized that his REAL message of was that children needed to be disciplined, and this sometimes involved physical correction. But even with that concession there are two major reasons I believe Dobson should be abhorred and discredited.

First, Dobson's teachings were/are distorted in several ways that resulted in unnecessary abuse of children. Many parents used his teachings as a justification for their own inherent sadistic tendencies and used 'discipline' as an outlet for their anger problems and rage issues. I SAW this, FIRST HAND, as a child growing up with the children of fundamentalist Christians. Further, some parents felt OBLIGATED to engage in physical discipline, when it was not really necessary, so they would not be seen by God as being 'too soft' or 'too permissive' as parents.

Second, Dobson's teachings are part of an overall conceptual schema (George Lakoff would call it a 'frame') that is the basic structure of the conservative political orientation.

Dobson's paternalistic, patriarchal, strict father, disciplinarian model is the (largely unconsciousness) basis for many people's embrace of political conservatism. That is the most important reason I think this man needs to be vilified, ridiculed, and discredited.

18. Yep, my fundie folks were big on Dobson
I was once black and blue from the base of my neck to my ankles. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" was their favorite saying. My son has had behavioral problems, and they actually suggested that I read Dobson. I told them that I'd rather read books put out by pyschologists who have dealt with ADHD Aspie kids.

20. Me too!
My stepdad has apologized for the hell I went through. He admitted that he was in over his head when he married my mom, and had no clue how to really deal with me. My mom, on the other hand, still denies that any of it happened. She has a very selective memory.

15. Yeah! I used the website...
...to THANK the people who mocked Dobson's BS, and I said in my note just where I was sending it from! Keith even replied:

Apparently the site can be hacked, too -- but that's just a rumor.

I read that my PBS (NYC) station is going to run the "Sugartime" episode of "Postcards from Buster," so I wrote to thank them, and this was their response:

Thirteen is pleased to air the series Postcards From Buster, a PBS
program designed to help kids understand American culture in all its
richness and variety.

Over the course of 40 episodes, Postcards features 45 different
families, introducing young viewers to characters from many ethnic
backgrounds and locales, including urban, suburban and rural.

Reflecting the reality of family life in 21st-century America, Postcards
also features various family structures found in the United States
today.

In the episode Sugartime!, which takes place at a Vermont sugar house
and dairy farm, the children featured live in a family with two mothers.
A significant number of children across the United States live in a
similar family arrangement, with two parents of the same sex. We feel
strongly that those children deserve to have their lives and their
reality acknowledged and reflected in a series that celebrates
diversity.

Despite the controversy surrounding this program, we are standing by our original decision to air it. While we carefully review programs to
ensure that they do not contain inaccurate or scurrilous content, we
never withdraw programs from the air simply because the situations
portrayed might not be to the liking of some viewers. We seek to
present programs that fairly represent reality and we leave it up to our viewers to draw their own conclusions, using their own good judgment and intelligence.
