Red state ignorance
If you haven't seen the Red state road trip by Chris Hune at Truthout you are missing a good laugh (or cry).

Check it out at Truthout

1. Yeah, there's an amazing disconnect between what they say
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 10:49 AM by Godlesscommieprevert
about what the problems are in this country - health care, the economy - and what they do about it - vote for Bush. The interviewer was talking to a waitress and asked her what was wrong with the country - the town's unemployment rate is 18%. She said jobs and health care, "We need health care - we NEED health care". He asked her of she thought it was american to dissent from the government or president. This was her reply verbatim:
"I would surely question in my opinion, but I'm still gonna stand behind my president. Whether, you know, I think it's right or wrong - I'm still gonna support him becasue that's my duty as an American I think".

Another guy was asked what he thought the main problems were, he said the deficit. When asked what had caused the deficit, he admitted it was the policies in place (plus 911), but he still voted for Bush.

Unfrikkin' believable.

2. that's the poblem , they see it as some moral duty
they feel their goodness or their patriotism or their americanness is dependent on being supportive of him no matter what.

3. I just loooove making fun of red-staters!
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 11:01 AM by tx_dem41
Its FUN laughing at people that one day I hope will vote for my party. I mean, I could spend the time at trying to understand why they feel this way, and adopt a strategy that changes their mind. But, you know what, that would be waaaayyy too hard. Too much work.

I'll just laugh at them instead. That's fun...and easy!

4. Who's making fun?
It seems the whole idea of the Truthout drive through the red states is an attempt to try and figure out what's going on in the minds of voters like these.
If we can't understand them, we can't do anything about changing their minds or thought processes.

6. Agreed...
that's why I didn't address your post. Possibly the word "laugh" in the original post set me off. Sorry, if it seemed directed at you.

5. Who gave the ditzy waitress the right to vote?
I suspect her elevator can't go to the top floor. Since the shaft is missing an elevator all together... I guess we'll never be able to prove it.
