Santorum MUST be unseated! Here's why
Anybody notice recently how the Bush administration hasn't really been talking about "family values" issues eg gay marriage and abortion. Why is this? Because the Bush administration doesn't give a shit about "family values" issues, they are too busy screwing over the country with things like SS privitization and more tax cuts for people who don't need them. They have been re-elected and therefore they no longer need the religious fundamentalist base that got them re-elected. But wait, what about 2008.

Enter Rick "Man-on-Dog" Santorum, the notorious homophobic senator from Pennsylvania, who is never afraid to speak his mind when it involves gay bashing. Even scarier about Mr. Santorum is that he's not the senator from Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Alabama, Mississippi, or Oklahoma. No, he's the Senator from Pennsylvania a state that both John Kerry and Al Gore took. So how does Rick "Man-on-Dog" Santorum get elected in a state that leans blue? It's simple, the religious whackos in Western Pennsylvania turn out to vote for the guy, and apparently turn out in bigger troves than they do to vote for Bush. Santorum can appeal to these people arguably better than any Republican who can get elected.

My point is that if he isn't unseated, Santorum will either be on the top or the bottom of the ticket in 2008. Despite the fact that the religious fundies will be pissed off at Bush for not giving a shit about gay marriage/abortion in his second term, Santorum will get them to turn out. He's proven that he can do this in Pennsylvania thus he can certainly do this in other states.

Santorum MUST be defeated in 2006.

1. You know, I'm not disagreeing with you, but
Santorum winning or losing in 06 will have NO bearing on him running for preznit in 08. I have a feeling he'll run, and it will be hard as FUCK to beat him. We live in a sick country.

2. he got reelected last time
because the Dem candidate couldn't raise money because he was anti-choice, pro-gun and generally socially conservative. The Dems need to be more united this time.

3. I'm a Pennsylvanian
I think Bob Casey might be able to beat Santorum. He's pro-life so he might be able to dilute Santorum's support in that area (he's a traditional Dem on other issues).

4. How to defeat Santorum
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 08:34 PM by IanDB1
1) Register to run in his district as an independent candidate.

2) Campaign on the most fundamentalist, anti-gay platform you can imagine. Wake-up in the morning and say to yourself, "Today, I am going to pretend to be Alan Keyes."

3) Reach-out to fundamentalists, evangelicals, and other un-enlightenment types.

4) Your platforms are going to be "protecting" marriage, denying civil unions, keeping gays out of the military, making sure that private companies are not allowed to extend domestic partnership rights, gay people can't file domestic abuse cases against their partners, banning gay-straight alliance groups and tolerance training from public schools, forbidding gay pride events, etc.

5) Here are some other things you will promise:

a) You're going to say you want to make sure the government can fund charter schools, even if they are religious schools.
b) You want the 10 commandments posted in every courthouse, classroom, police station, and in the passenger seat of every police cruiser where handcuffed suspects can read them.
c) You want rooms set aside in public schools for "voluntary prayer."
d) Students will have the option of adding the words, "We ask these things in Christ's name o Lord, Amen" to the end of the pledge.
e) The pledge will always be followed by the song "God Bless America."
f) Gay people will not be allowed to name one another as beneficiaries.
g) Gay people will have their "medical proxy" rights weakened, so that "blood relatives" can over-ride the instructions of their partner.

6) You are going to run as the most godwhacked fundamentalist theocratic fundie that Pennsylvania has ever seen. This will split Santorum's vote, giving the Democrat a better chance.

7) You are going to liberally quote Fred Phelps and Alan Keyes, and perhaps even invite them on your campaign trail.

8) On the off chance that you're elected... well, politicians never keep their promises anyway, do they?

Remember: The goal is to split the bigot-fundie vote between Santorum and yourself.

NO MORE BROWN FROTHY LIQUID FOR PENNSYLVANIA!

NO MORE SANTORUM!

17. This needs to be done
in a number of areas in this country. Get candidates who are more "family values" and further to the right than slugs like Santorum.

10. Hey! Not everyone is strange in Western PA
Who was it that said that PA is a Democratic dumb bell. Big on both ends and nothing in the middle?

Even the most Repug counties had a reasonable turnout for Hoeffel. Somerset was 65% - 31% You have a hard time finding anyone to admit loudly that they are Dem around here.

We can win this seat! I will be working toward this goal.

James Carville called PA Pittsburgh on one end and Philadelphia on the other with Alabama in the middle.

I'd love to see folks holding up those signs at his appearances.

(Sorry, I don't mean to disrupt the serousness of this thread, but I couldn't resist. I spread that definition whenever I can (no pun intended). :D

Love the graphics.

:yourock:

PA needs to organize against Santorum. He's vulnerable and he's not even a resident.

19. Show-up at Pro-Santorum rallies and Santorum press conferences
use a big black marker to modify your Santorum signs.

Just have big signs that say "Santorum" with a whole lot of "white-space" left over.

And when the press shows up, change them to, "SpreadingSantorum.Com"

And maybe:

"Santorum: A Brown Frothy Fluid"

Does Santorum publish a schedule of planned appearances?

And have you done a Google "image search" on "Santorum" lately?
http://images.google.com/images?q=santorum&num=100&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi

Make sure "safe-search" is off.
