Rice is to the GOP what Clark is to the Democratic Party
I saw a few threads discussing the "Rice option" and this thought occured to me this evening so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Would the Republicans ever nominate a black woman who shares their values? Would they nominate someone who would alienate the bigots in the party?

Would the Democrats ever nominate a general who shares their values? Would they nominate someone who offends the ideologically pure pacifist, anti-military anything wing of the party?

Am I on to something here, or is my brain just rambling?

1. My best advice is to follow no one at this point. Keep your options ...
open, along with your eyes and remember, we have two ears and one mouth for a reason.

2. Yeah, but Clark isn't a lying, egotistical, backstabbing, hypocritical
traitor.

Rice is.

3. No, they are opposites, and yet...
in relation to their party, outsiders who in one way or another that could pull in voters outside their party.

4. Clarkie! you're rambling.
Rice is a liar and an idiot. Clark tells the truth and is a genius.
Rice will never win any election. Clark can have our nomination in 2008.

Clark would have won it this time because he was right on the war. He got in too late and had to learn a little too much on the job.

So, in conclusion, there is no connection between the odious Rice and the splendid Clark.

5. No, you are not understanding what I meant
Yes, it was probably a brain fart of mine, but I am not talking about their character or integrity being in any way similar.

I mean in their relationship to the party they are and, oh never mind....brain fart I guess.

7. You are right. I don't understand, but I like it.
This is a great thread. It's like being in The Lounge but discussing something important.

You are Clarkie1. Very impressive. Is there just a just plain Clarkie?

I think that the party will like Clark, does like Clark. Right now, he gets the best press of any of the 2004 candidates.

I'm trying to think of something Loungish to say. Hmmm...

12. I don't know if there is just a plain "Clarkie"
I guess I called myself Clarkie1 because I thought maybe I'd be the first to sign up with a Clarkie handle? I changed my username right after the election when DU was allowing name changes.

Sometimes I wish I didn't call myself Clarkie1, because then some assume I am some sort of mindless fanatic, some even have interpreted my handle as "fascist" on this board.

However, on reflection I think I was subconsciously perhaps choosing "Clarkie1" because Clark makes me believe, among other things, that one person can make a difference. I hope my handle is not interpreted by other Clarkies that I think I'm the #1 Clarkie or something ridiculous like that (the thought is very embarrasing).

Clark was the first person ever to inspire to really get actively involved in politics: donating, letter-writing, phone-calling. The guy genuinely struck me as one of a kind, and the rest as politicians. Good people, but I'd become pretty cynical of politicians.

So I guess Clarkie1 means, or I'd like to think it to mean, that one person can make a difference, whoever they are. I think Clark would like that interpretation.

Rambling again...signing off for the evening.

14. Not rambling at all.
This is a great message. I found Clark a breath of fresh air. He actually thinks through issues and applies his sharp mind to draw conclusions that are persuasive. He inspired me also. I'm sorry he didn't make it all the way.

I hope he keeps living up to your standards (and mind too).

BTW, there is no just plain "Clarkie" so you're it. Anyone interpreting your handle as "fascist" is a troll for sure!

And, I got what you are saying - it just bothers me to compare Clark to that liar in any way. ;)

6. You forgot
Clark is gorgeously handsome.

Rice is, um... well, I'm a straight female, so maybe my opinion doesn't count here, but I think she's the opposite of Clark. ;)

10. Rice and Clark aren't comparable
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 12:53 AM by zmdem
in my opinion.

I think the Republican party would accept Rice as a candidate, but I doubt she would want that. Rice seems to me to be someone who wishes to influence policy, but not someone who wishes to be directly responsible for it in the sense that the president or a senator is. She's policy wonk.

As to Clark, he's definitely a man for whom executive power is an option. His main problem, as I see it, is political inexperience. Frankly, I think Clark is a contender and I also think the Democratic party would be foolish to ignore him.

EDIT: spelling

16. agree
She is not a politician. I'd be amazed if she ever ran for office. She doesn't seem to have the disposition for it. But then neither does Cheney.

If you really are a Clark supporter, I wouldn't start comparing him to Rice. The Republicans have many figures far more popular and competent.

17. How can you compare the war criminal Lady Macbeth to Wes Clark?
I cannot think of enough epithets to use when referring to that lying POS Condi Rice. I wouldn't even use her name on the same sentence as Wes Clark!

22. Would a Democrat vote for a Black Woman??
I would. Not Condoleeeeeeeeeeeeza, but one with a soul. We don't need a housemaid leading our country.

I wonder if they will run her with the hope that some "moderate" Democrats look past her evil underpinnings and vote strictly on her gender and race?

Would the number of such people exceed the number of bigots in the Republican Party? Dunno...
