If Kerry, Lieberman et al really want to beat Dean, then DROP OUT
It seems like candidates such as Lieberman, Kerry and others are really passionate about stopping Dean. It seems to me that the best way to do this would be simply to drop out of the race. I think alot of Kerry supporters would flock to Clark etc. making him the clear opponent to Dean. If they dropped out, their support going to Clark would clearly make it more of a two man race.

I'm another Clark supporter but I think that they are passionate about beating Dean themselves. Not in promoting Wes Clark!

Welcome to DU! :hi:

3. No, I am a Clark supporter.
Dean is the obvious frontrunner. Of course I am looking at how to beat him.

5. Well,
It does take a heap of ego to think you should be president, doesn't it?

7. I'd like it to happen, but this is a silly suggestion
Lieberman, Kerry have as much right to run as anyone else. Encouraging still vibrant campaigns to bail out to help Clark is as silly as Gore telling everybody to bail out and support Dean. Let's do some voting first, 'kay?

8. I love Clark as much as the next guy, but...
I would not want someone to drop out of the race until they are ready to.

9. I'm just suggesting
that if they are really that passionate about stopping Dean, why not use common sense?

12. If you were using common sense, you would see why your...
idea is so flawed.

Most "supporters" of any of the candidates support them because they recognize the name, not because of any particular position. If Keryy, Gephardt, Lieberman or any of the others dropped out, their supporters would be divided up among the remaining candidates. And in most cases, the supporters would gravitate towards the candidate that they perceived as the strongest remaining candidate. Many people would see Dean as being this person.

In other words, there is no reason to believe that one candidates supporters would necessarily "go to" another particular candidate.

17. No you see most democrats are not driven by hate for Dean
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 12:21 AM by TLM

They are not running to destory Dean as you seem think they are.

They are running because they each want to be president.

Although if you want to stop Dean so badly, why not get Clark to drop out and throw his support behind Kerry?

WHat's wrong... his ego too big?

10. That is not going to happen.
It is clear that they are not going to the nominee. I think they should drop out but that is not going to happen.

11. Clark is against the war in Iraq, while Lieberman & Co are cheerleaders
They are also incredibly ambitious and impatient that so many other players have ruined their chances at the nomination, which explains why Lieberman, Kerry, and Gephardt are so snippy with the other candidates (Edwards is the only grown up in that group).

14. Nobody is going to be persuaded at this point.
From here on it only the voters are going to be talking.

So here's my rant of the day:

There are less than 1000 hours left until the ball drops.

We aren't going to convince anyone else on DU to sign up with our guy, not Dean supporters, not Kerry supporters, not anyone.

It really isn't worth the effort to reply to the old tried and true anti-Clark crap, whether its Pristina or Waco or whatever.

Just shut it down and let's move on.

We've got an election to win and it isn't going to get won here.

18. I'll add my 2 cents as well
It's funny to me that you think that Clark *needs* the others to drop out in order to win. I'd like to see the nominee be picked for actually being the strongest candidate, whether it be Clark or anyone else. Clark and all of the candidates need to stand on their own 2 legs while winning, not ride on the backs of others' supporters.

19. I think Graham is going to go w/Dean, not Clark
I think Clark can do better. Graham is influential in FL, but nowhere else. Not that FL isn't important. We all know that it is.

Of course, it's way too early for them to be talking VPs, since not even one vote has been cast.

Clark should have someone as VP from the northeast or California, shouldn't he?

But I'll vote for Clark, even if Graham is on the ticket.
