On JD Hayworth

about JD Hayworth.

Here is the deal from what all the people I know in and out of the party:
JD is not completely stupid, he saw the same election results that I and anyone else with a chance to check out the results at the Sec. of State's office. As a first timer with no party support, extreme youth, and no money I NEVER should have done as well as I did against him. That proved one of my original points of running, that JD is quite vunerable and he knows this. He might not be as smart as any of the three people running last time against him (Roz might have made a mistake in not running as a Dem but she is no fool and Ron is crazy but again no fool.) but he does have good political instincts. He also knows the talking points down cold and will use them against whoever is arguing with him. One of the key things that got me the supporters who helped me in the race was the fact that I (unlike the others who have run against him in the past) would not let a point go when I knew he was wrong or lying. The video of the round table discussion showed that.

If he runs for governor (and he wants to because he DOES want to be president and Governors do better in getting into that office then Senators or Representatives) he is going to have to make it through the primary and Rick Romely is going to much more of a threat then previously thought, plus Rick has both military experience and nothing to do but campaign for the next two years while JD has to be in Washington at least PART of the time. And with the President's Social Security thing needing everyone on board, it will hurt him badly with regards to the population of AZ.

JD will either hedge his bets by qualifing for both the US House and Govenor primaries, that way if he loses one he is still safe for the other or not run this time. He knows that Governor Napalitano will kick his ass because all three of the things that neither Roz or I had: She is known, will have the money, and the Democratic Party will support her big time. He also is only 46, he can wait another four years to run for governor and then run for President in 2012 if need be.

As for the person running against him this time...I am not going to run. Larry King is going to run (and has party as well as more money support) and rather then fight the party AGAIN I am going to just not bother. I feel that a woman would do better to go for that race if JD does not go for the governorship but unfortunately it seems getting a 100K votes counts for nothing unless you can get that much or more in money. :eyes:

most of the republican reps in AZ have had a good time, riding Hull's gerrymander and not having to worry much about democratic opposition.

It's still going to be a tough fight, and we need Napolitano in office for the 2010 redistricting.

Hayworth was the Republican candidate. She would cream him.

Former sportscaster was fired and had to get a job as a right wing political hack since he wasn't smart enough for anything else. In most parts of Arizona, all you need is the "R" next to your name.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out with Social Security and the retirement areas.

This may just be the right time to turn Maricopa blue with the rest of the state.

working in Maricopa...I could see that.

She, like many others, were virtually ignored by the state party but managed impressive showings anyway.

To get 100,000 votes in a R gerrymandered area with next to no support from the party is unbelievable.

I wish I could think of a clever comment regarding his former sportscasting career and that photo, but I can't. The brain makes the link somehow but just can't go beyond it.
