In other words, he's really killing a primary source of college funding while saying he will increase Pell Grants.

make many thousands of dollars from farm aid, and then turn around and complain about "welfare". There's a lot of hypocrisy there.

As for student aid, that's an entirely different thing. Most countries don't expect students to pay for college or university education. Or where they do, it's not as hideously expensive as so many of our schools. But I'm constantly astonished at the young people who think it's a Good Idea to undertake massive debt for an undergraduate degree. If anyone were to ask me, I'd tell a young person with no money to start out at the local junior college, then transfer to the local public college or university. You'd be better off working full time an going part time, taking longer to finish but get out debt-free (or with very little debt) than to spend thirty years paying off loans.

There really is no reason why going to one of the prestigious schools needs to cost upwards of $30,000 per year. But it does, and if you don't get scholarships or grants (free money), and if your parents aren't rich enough to pay for it, no one (in my mind) should consider taking out loans of that nature. And yet, people do, because they're bamboozled into believing that's better than going to State U. Yes, there are real differences between schools. Some really are better than others. And I have nothing but admiration for the ones who get full ride scholarships to the best schools in this country. But going into serious debt? No, thank you.
