Did CBS News tell the truth about Dean's refusal to give an interview?
They claimed, while prominently showing a replay of the scream (apparently for the seven people in the entire world who have not seen it over and over and over), that Dean refused to give them an interview unless they agreed not to show a replay of the scream. Their willingness to show the scream, they implied at the end, showed their integrity.

While I think we can agree the scream is somewhat less important than the endless lies of the Bush Admin (which aren't replayed over and over and over), Dean has to know that particular moment is not going away. He's been pretty good at laughing it off, and it strikes me as unlikely that he would have given CBS those terms. Obviously, the DNC Chairman has to give interviews. Anyone know if CBS was telling the truth about this?

1. I don't know
But regardless, that reporter, can't recall his name, showed just how much integrity he really has. I really couldn't believe that display of "journalism." Disgusting.

2. I don't know if it's true or not but
it's a fair demand, in the interest of unbiased journalism.

When they start showing the My Pet Goat clip as a prelude to every Bush interview, I will consider changing my position.

3. That's what I heard, too.
However, I think Dean needs to give them the back of his hand and start using the oldest, most effective trick in the salesman's bag, take it away. I would rather imagine he knows this quite well and needs no advice from me.

9. I was just thinking along these lines
I heard Dean's speech today, and I was thinking, when the whores interview Dean they're not going to be interested in the kinds of things he said in that speech. They're going to be asking how much he and Hillary hate each other, and all that kind of crap. And I was wondering how he'd handle it.

I hope Dean gives the whores hell, and this story is a good sign, if true.

10. Sadly, CBS probably is telling the truth.
It was a mistake to try to nix the scream. They should have demanded the interview either be live or unedited and then had dean call them on playing the scream right to their faces, which he is perfectly capable of doing without sounding whiney.

Then instead of the DNC looking like a bunch of scared kittes and CBS looking like principled journalists, Dean would have looked like a fighting dem and CBS would have been forced to defend their bush fellating right in front of everybody.

12. That approach didn't work when Diane Sawyer played "the scream"
I think Howard Dean did the right thing.

Enough is enough.

I like the reply above that CBS doesn't introduce every story on George W. Bush with a clip of him reading "My Pet Goat," although that is a more important moment.

19. No one watches the "Liberal" CBS anyway.
I think he probably did the right thing.

CBS is considered "Liberal" anyway- they would have gone out of their way to bash him to "make up" for the AWOL story. If they had not done this, then it would have been called a "puff piece" for the DEMS...

to take any of their silly and stupid trivial crap!

11. Good move, Howard
He's setting the rules of his relationship with MSM early. Which he can because nobody expects them to present Howard in good light no matter what he does. All he has to do is use that to his advantage.

15. I read on an earlier DU thread he refused an interview with Fox
re DNC chair because they are nothing more than a propaganda arm for the Republican Party.

Earlier today on C-span he refused to repond to unattributed quotes
in questions from journalists.

He's not running for public office and he's going to play the media game differently than if he were.

You could tell what was running through the minds of all those media whores, but he smacked them down and stayed on target.
