Need help on RFK bio please

Need help on RFK bio please
Recently, when Joe Conason was subbing for Franken he did a little tribute to a buddy of his who he said had passed away. Among the things he said about the guy was that he wrote the best book going about RFK. Specifically, he said it captured RFK's '68 campaign beutifully. I thought he might have meant Evan Thomas so I started reading his RFK bio but I think I was wrong. Also, I don't see any news about Evan Thomas being dead. Any idea who Conason was talking about?

The late author penned "RFK: A Memoir," among others--inspiring and haunting at the same time.

Who would have thought that a cold warrior like Robert Kennedy would evolve into one of our most tortured humanists--who lingers in our collective memory as the last hope we had of turning away from empire?
