I joined the Democratic Party today
I am 44 years old. I've always been a bit independant but have usually voted democrat (except a few times in state/local races). I am very liberal. Dean running the party clinched it. There has always been an intellectual nerdiness to the leadership that has always turned me off. That tack just doesnt work anymore. Republicans can run right over meek intellectualism just by being loud assholes. The democrats finally have a backbone. I celebrated today by proudly joining the college dems at the school I take classes at. With no qualms I loudly proclaim, "I AM A DEMOCRAT"!!!

5. I wish we could all come together and do something to support the Party
so many people here fired off at each other over this Dean DNC DLC thing.

Well now Dean is running the party. It seems as though people don't really care enough to support the party now.

Dean and the DNC are one in the same and I don't see alot of support for the party. What a shame.

13. Once Dean has kicked a little GOP ass.......
and shows that, indeed, the party has new backbone I think many people will come around. This is my biggest hope with Dean. Anything is better than what got us to this point in the first place......milqtoast GOP lite.

7. It's time to fight! No longer will saying "Dean damages
the Democrats" apply! I truly believe truth will stick eventually. Right now truth is gaining momentum. We can make our own history, dictate our own agenda, and put our issues on the front pages. I'm convinced Howard Dean will make sure of that.

16. The democrats, in the past, have allowed the GOP to define them
That, I believe, is where the questioning of people like Dean originates from. Watch the GOP reaction in coming months. They will try, through endless repetition, to frame Dean as this or than and some of it will rub off on people in here. Its now time to stop listening to what the republicans think and DEFINE OURSELVES; hopefully, Dean will do just that.

14. Democrat next week
I am going to head down next week to change to a Democrat. I am tired of being an Independant with no representation. Mr. Dean was a MAJOR factor in my decision to switch parties.

I am also thrilled how Reid and Pellosi will be ridding the Democratic party of the loser 'shrills' that shower the party with strategies that just don't win. Seems that the Democratic party is finally getting a spine. I want to be someone who helps strengthen that spine.

15. I've been "independent" most of my life and realized BEATING one party,...
,...that party which is spending American people like they are jellybeans is the only possibility towards opening the door to other political parties,...for now.

I filed as a "Democrat" for the first time in my life.

I'm glad I did because there are some fabulous Democrat representatives who are speaking to me and all those who surround me,..."the people"!!!

I bet you're not alone by any means. Howard Dean will make that happen again and again. And little by little, there are a few other Democrats who also appear to be ready to show some spine.

Check this out, especially the last paragraph - featuring ANOTHER Howard:

27. Welcome, I came over from the dark side myself, hence the pseudonym!
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 09:25 PM by Rebellious Republica
I became totally disenfranchised from the Rethuglican party several years ago.

I celebrated my new party affiliation here on DU as well, and have never looked back.

And I am proud to say that I am a FORMER REPUBLICAN! I enjoy throwing it in there lock step, neoconservative, arrogant faces every chance I get.

I have especially enjoyed it when some foolish freeper has tried to banter with me here on DU. My pseudonym is like a lightning rod to them.

Considering I spent 20 plus years as a registered republican, I knew all of their tactics and have sent them all down in flames.

I could almost hear there heads explode, hehehe!

Welcome friend...........

Damn good chance your vote was counted for Bush last November. Make the move to re-register Democrat (even if you vote Republican). We have to stop giving them easy opportunities to steal future elections.

37. yeah I felt the same way until Dean ran for president
I called myself Indpendent because the Democrats looked like a bunch of pussies and the Republicans looked like a bunch of assholes. Then Dean representing the "Democratic wing of the Democratic party" came along and showed some real backbone and dared to oppose the fascists.

I joined our local Dean group which later turned into the college Dems. It feels great to be a Democrat, the party of the people, the only party that welcomes liberals, moderates, conservatives and just about anyone.
