I really dislike the term "Mangate"
I think it emphasizes the homosexual angle too much of the Gannon/Guckert story. Of course it's fun that there is a sexual element to the story since the GOP loves sexy scandal. It's fun that it's not just sexual but HOMOSexual since they are the party of family values and a major platform is against those sinful gays getting hitched. Yes, it's nice that there's a hypocritical aspect to it all but is this really the meat(pardon the pun)of the story?

The scandal is about a conspiracy within the administration at the highest levels to produce propaganda and pass it off as legitimate news. The questions are about how did this person get this level of access with no credentials? Who knew about him and when? The links are between Texas and Rove and the entire neo-con information control network. That's what needs to be uncovered. Rove may have given "Gannon" the Valerie Plame information. Rove may have created the entire CBS Rather memo mistake and used Gannon to "uncover" the scandal. His presence implies an organized and deliberate attempt to influence the campaign against Kerry and deceive the entire country by manipulating the media. It all ties into the already outrageous, yet proven practice of paying pundits to write and say positive things about GOP policies. Bush called on Gannon so he's in on it too and that is golden.

So to emphasize the sexual angle just de-emphasizes what really matters. It sounds petty and juvenile and homophobic and only plays right into their hands. Besides Mangate is so vague. I prefer PropaGannon. Add a gate if you must.

3. Sadly, I don't think it matters.
Since, as per usual, the mediawhores are protecting Bush instead of doing their jobs, we can call it Fred and it won't make a difference.

Your right, though. The term "Mangate" is bad on many levels..

Cannongate or Mangate or Loose Gannon or Mangayte or ...... Mandate ....or
....... What is sauce for the Goose, is Sauce for the Gannnon? (I stole that line
from a thread earlier today)

Which one has legs?

I have also seen Gannon Balz, J.J. Goo Cannon, and Man Cannon

I admit pimping Mangate but now Man Date seems a little more catchy

We need to out Rove, Rove

7. I agree - foaming at the mouth about the sex angle diminishes the story
In my opinion, what the American people need to know if that the Bush administration has carried out a program of deliberate propaganda. Frank Rich did a nice job of making this case in today's NYT (posted in GD):

Not to say that the juicy details about Gannon aren't hysterically funny -- and probably the main reason the media is paying attention to the story. The main thing we need to get across to the public, though, is the propaganda angle -- we need America to WAKE UP and see what's been going on.

I very much like "PropaGannon" -- Mangate misses the point.

How about doing a DU poll? Lay out the arguments and ask people to choose??

8. PropaGannon has much more of a chance of creeping into the MSM
"Mangate" won't get picked up by the media, but "PropaGannon" has a shot. This is one of those "framing" things: If we can disseminate "PropaGannon" across the blogosphere, reporters will start using it among themselves -- that will help establish the story in everyone's mind that the Bush adminstration has been engaging in a propaganda effort. It may even be pciked up by CNN's new "bloggin segment.

9. Thank you.
Mangate is meaningless to me. It stops at his private life when the story is that he was working for Rove not how did this guy with his private life get credentialed. He got credentialed because he is working for them period.

11. You are missing the obvious pun that makes mangate so funny.
it's that dubya thinks he's got a mandate, and has been pimping his mandate.

when in reality, what he's got on his hands right now is a mangate.
