In the history of the DNC chair position, how many times has the chair...
... spoken out, or tore at the throats, of the GOP?

Are there quotes of such?

I just don't recall it.

That's why the posts berating Dean for not doing this and not doing that are so funny.

It isn't his JOB to do it. However, I'm sure if he wants to, he will.

As someone said earlier - let Dean continue fundraising and building grass roots support.

1. I agree! And he won't back down if directly attacked.

2. Thank you, wyldwolf!
It's a little early for Dems to be ragging on Dean, already!

We should all get behind him and give him a chance like we did for Kerry when he was our nominee..

3. The past 30 years have been dismal
because the party has been headed by a bunch of old maids in pants who thought the key to success was by countering the Nixonian southern strategy and dragging the party so far to the right that few of us recognize it any more.

I have no idea how the true centrist Dean will do, if he'll be able to dislodge the right wingers from the party power center or not.

I just wish him all the luck in the world. If he doesn't succeed, the party is pretty much doomed.

5. will you clarify something for me?
The Nixonian southern strategy was rightwing. If the "bunch of old maids in pants" were countering it, how was that "dragging the party so far to the right that few of us recognize it any more."

And if I may ask - are you familiar with Dem policies pre-1970?

4. Dean's trademark is ripping the GOP
He needs to do enough of that along with the quiet work of rebuilding the Dem infrastructure in order to keep the base enthusiastic and sending in funds.

Dean will be walking a tightrope on speaking out for a while. The Dem infrastructure at the state and local level is weak or nonexistent in many places, so he's got a lot of planning and recruiting local Dem leaders to do.
