Will we "turn" on Barbara Boxer if she votes for Negroponte
Will you be disappointed, but still support her. Or will that be that as far as you're concerned re: Barbara.

After all she's done re: Jan 6th and grilling Condi and such, I'm concerned about the "vote rollercoaster" that some seem to be on in regard to the Dems.

Criticizing her, calling her to let her know how you feel about Negroponte and such things is not what I mean by "turning" on her. Calling her "Repug-lite", saying such things as "fuck her then" and the like is what I mean, just to be clear.

So, what will you think about Boxer if she votes for Negroponte.

This is what I feared re: Boxer by the way. The first time she voted for something several of us wouldn't like I feared several folks would want their roses back.

So? What say you?  ?

1. Why would any democrat want someone to think that Negroponte
...is an acceptable choice for any high level position in our government?

21. Perhaps she does not believe that he had ties to death squads
I don't believe that he has ever been charged as a war criminal.

13. The vote hasn't happened yet. Let's work on her.
Before January 6th, her voting record was fair at best. She voted for USA-PATRIOT I and II (the Intelligence Reform Act), and the Homeland Security Act. She's a bit of a fence rider. But now she knows she can get away with doing the right thing and we need to let her know how wrong it would be for her to back Negroponte. Let's flood her with faxes and letters. It's up to us to convince her.

2. I would be very puzzled and disappointed in her
However, I'd hope that she'd give us a clear rationale for her voting for him, if it ever came to that, especially with Negroponte getting a pass while Rice and Gonzales didn't.

since this guy is an old Reagan hand, I doubt many will go far in objecting though.

5. I'm a fan of Senator Boxer now and will be --
-- after the Negroponte vote. When I control the universe, nominees like Negroponte won't even exist, but until that moment, I realize I have to take the bitter with the sweet.

I would vote for Russ Feingold for president even though I wish he had not voted to confirm John Ashcroft.

There are very few zipless f*cks out there.

6. I would.
No excuse for that from any dem. That would not constitute representing this particular part of her constituency.

8. I will...
she showed she's got intelligence when she researched the facts Conyers gave her and stood up for our rights. If she now is going to lose that intelligence and courage and vote for a human-rights violating Caudillo Embassador from the "banana republics", then yeah...I will lose respect for her.

BUt...I never stake my faith in any of the Washington politicians...so I don't have those periodic crisis of "trust" with the likes of Kerry, Clinton, and other "Democratic Party Stars" that a lot of DUers suffer from.

9. Nothing personal, Babs, I just don't like death squads.

Any vote that could increase the amount of torture and deaths of innocent women, children and civilians in this world, does not represent me.

I don't vote for death squads, I don't vote for anyone who votes for death squads, I don't vote for anyone who votes for anyone who votes for death squads, ad infinitum.

14. I know I would be
very disappointed and sad if any of them support. Especially Boxer and Kerry. But I know they have to becareful with their votes and everything. There's only so much they can do up there. I know it sounds like an excuse but she's done a lot so far which I'm very thankful for.

15. I've lost faith in any of them
to stop the machine. It was nice to see Boxer do what she did to Rice, but it felt somewhat empty(in the big picture), because you knew it wasn't going to make a difference when it came down to the vote.

Will I hold it against her if she votes for Negroponte? Maybe if I believed in Congress. Outside of a few distant voices, and a few more stands on some individual issues, what's there? Negroponte would be just the icing on the cake.

They don't care about people, they certainly don't care about protests. The people in power right now just flat out don't give a damn. They are imposing their will.

16. I won't but some DUers will
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 07:14 PM by IronLionZion
it doesn't take much for a DUer to attack another Democrat.

I hate John Negroponte for his criminal activities and because he's just plain evil, but even DU's hero Richard Clarke supports him. Some have turned on him already despite his courageous speech during the 9/11 hearings that could have gotten him "Wellstoned/Carnahaned".

Some DUers are like a bunch of rabid raccoons when it comes to supporting Democrats. Lots of flip flopping going on.

If Boxer does vote for Negroponte, then she has her reasons. If you want to know them, then politely ask her. But blind uninformed rage just makes you look like an asshole.

cheers,
ILZ

17. It would be pretty hard to figure out
how a person justifies voting for a torturer. Problem is Negroponte and his cohorts worked their black magic in South America under both Dems and Repugs. Building the empire is a bipartison Corporate Goal.

19. My heart bleeds for politicians that sell out.
I've long been an admirer of Boxer, but my admiration just dropped to near zero since her endorsement of "death squad" Negroponte.

"But, it's just one vote." Tell it to the thousands of Hondurans who were murdered by the death squads that Negroponte supported.

20. Before I'd condemn her for her vote, I would write to ask her sincerely
why she would choose to endorse a person with his history of human rights violations. She has been very supportive of us, I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt here. Let her explain her rationale, I think she would take the time to do that. I also will explain my reasons for being against 'Necro'ponte's nomination, even though I don't really get to vote on it of course. Perhaps if BB gets enough letters expressing our unhappiness in a clear and respectful way, she might reconsider. I certainly won't judge her in any case. She has had the most integrity and grit out of all of them lately. I will also write to Senator Kerry and ask him to please consider voting against Negroponte and being vocal about the reasons. Constructive criticism and attempting to head off the yeah votes if possible with LOTS of letters and phone calls seems the most wise course to me. It worked in getting Barbara Boxer to oppose the certification of the Ohio electors, and it can work now.
