Bush: "No Power on Earth Will Ever Divide Us" (more than he has already)

Even as protesters in Brussels prepared to take to the streets, Bush called the U.S.-European divide over Iraq a "passing disagreement" that must be put behind because the world can't afford to let democracy fail in Iraq, he said.

He called the rift with Europe over Iraq as a "passing disagreement of governments" and urged greater trans-Atlantic cooperation, including more support for the new Iraqi government.

"Our strong friendship is essential to peace and prosperity across the globe — and no temporary debate, no passing disagreement of governments, no power on earth will ever divide us," Bush said.

"As past debates fade, and great duties become clear, let us begin a new era of trans-Atlantic unity," Bush said in his speech.

3. Did Bush just marry the USA and Europe together?
"No power of earth will ever divide us". Same sex marriage is right out, but it's OK for global entities to get it on? What a weird set of speechwriters he has.

Still, here's a section that Democrats might find useful to quote:

"Governments must choose to fight corruption, abandon old habits of control, protect the rights of conscience and the rights of minorities.

Governments must invest in the health and education of their people, and take responsibility for solving problems instead of simply blaming others.

Citizens must choose to hold their governments accountable."

Who thinks that Bush had to be told who Albert Camus was, when they gave him the speech?

4. This does lend creedence to the idea we aren't planning on doing Iran
immediately. There can't be anybody in the Bush Administration who thinks we will get large scale Europeon support for invading Iran. Even Tony Blair won't be with us.

So why make nice? It might really be about getting them to shoulder some of the Iraq bill.

It is. They have demanded a lot but will get only a small part of what they demanded (of course the documents are already drawn up). But even this I begrudge you. I cannot for the life of me understand why we should give you one cent for illegally attacking another country.

8. So now I have recovered from puking....
way to go, Bush! Way to go! Nice to start off with telling Europeans that Benjamin Franklin (who no doubt was a very good man) was "greater than Liebniz - (Leibniz that name is spelled!) - or Newton, Frederick or Voltaire"!. Very flattering. And adding that the mass murderer had hoped for a similar reception as Franklin...

"Our shared commitment to democratic progress is being tested in Lebanon" - ah, who murdered Hariri again?

"Ukraine should be welcomed by the Europe Atlantic family... I also believe that Russia's future lies within the family of Europe..."
Fucking nerve - not for the first time - suggesting who should be a member of EU! UKRAINE, bribed by the USA, is the LAST country I'd ever want so see within EU (Poland and the Baltic states will damage us a lot - as if this weren't enough). But the US will keep bringing the pressure on like they did before.

"Our alliance is determined to show good stewardship of the Earth" - let's not even talk of Kyoto et al: Who, please, gave the Western countries "stewardship of the Earth"? ALL OF MANKIND has this stewardship.

"Great duties become clear..." - harken! Here speaks the visionary of visionaries, here speaks the messias!

"No power on earth will ever divide us": Now that's a threat if I ever heard one.
And believe me: Those European politicians will understand it to be exactly that.
