the tapes. Another Memogate Rove plot?

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I was out of town for the weekend and saw little of the Tape story. Only last night did I watch ABC's This Week and hear the clips. Now aside from the strange audio, I was not shocked by what I heard nor do I think that it is damaging to W. On the contrary, it puts a positive spin on a supposed negative. It makes these "truly" personal comments by Bush show that he "cares" about others in his decisions for A) not discussing his past and B) his flip floppy on the fence with gays attitude... het gets to have it both ways and maybe get some sympathy for it - at least with the clips I heard.

Am I wrong? Is there truly damaging stuff in these tapes? It just struck me from the beginning that something stinks about this... it seemed contrived...
