DU Contest : Repubs called tax hikes Revenue Enhancements in '80s
while they were in office and later blamed Dems for raising taxes, after Reagan's 1981 tax cuts and defense build-up.

This contest is to find out what witty euphemism the Republicans will come up with this time around.

"Fees and charges" is a starting point..."revenue adjuster" or "monetary fudge factor" is another. Please, think up any that may help our poor paleocons of the Republican persuasion come up with something that they can hoodwink the public with this time around.

There is a degree of difficulty factor on this which we can discuss in the Congressional smoke filled rooms later.

3. "Equalizing the burden"
meaning that the poor will pay a bigger share of their income in income tax (but the rich still won't have to pay FICA).

Hey, the bottom 20% oughta pay as much as the top 20%, right? Doesn't that sound fair?

Bush started talking this one up in his visits to the faithful in late 2002, by the way.

6. Warpy, it looks like we can never accuse neocons of being progressive !
On taxation or anything else it seems. They're always looking out for number one so much they don't realize by not being their brother's keeper so to speak they deny their arguments any credibility in the long run...they get found out as to who they really are.

5. It won't be the 'paleocons'
They're the ones who turned out to be Bush 41's worst nightmare when he went back on his 'read my lips' pledge.

Neocons are former liberals and even Trotskyites in many cases. They are the big-government "national greatness" ideology.
