They Have "God, Gays and Guns"....and we have what???????????
Take a look at the psychology behind the Repub's success and maybe you can see why we are losing.

God--They gave the people "Easy Jesus". It feels so good, doesn't it, to be having your ticket punched for heaven by just voting for the "Jesus ticket" instead of getting down in the dirt and working with the poor, sick and elderly and giving your money away to help the needy as Jesus preaches.

Gays--They gave them someone "different" from them to hate. We Americans positively looooove to hate.

Guns--They fed the fantasy held by the dimwitted that one is 'empowered' if one has a gun (empowered to do what about their lives??)and told them that the filthy liberals were going to cut off their..ummmm..."empowerment" No guy likes his "empowerment" cut off.

Now look at what our Congressional leaders and party leaders need to do to substitute for those holy three:

God--Redefine 'their' Christian religion to reflect what Jesus actually did preach (helping the poor, sick, etc.) and expose the right-wing preachermen as perverting the message to gain money and political power. Redirect them to what really is in the Bible.

Gays--Redirect this hatred of 'someone' different from them to people that are indeed different and who deserve their hate: i.e., the greedy wealthy and the corporations that are screwing the hell out of the American people. It's called "class warfare". It's feared by the Republicans. And, it's about time for it to be launched. It can have massive appeal.

Guns--Give them other issues centered on "empowerment" and point to how the Republicans are indeed cutting off these people's real "empowerment" (i.e, education that is the way out of spending your life on your knees in front of this slime; the various 'people programs like SS and Medicare, etc. that is the only way average Americans working together will be able to survive).

In a word, the Dems meet the holy three with idiotic crap like "the environment". Ohhhh, the environment is indeed very important but it doesn't have the grip of their 'three' nor draw the crowds to the voting both. Issues like the enviroment are something the Dems address once they get themselves elected. We had better find both an answer to their 'three' in the next four years and propose our own or we, once again, are going to lose. We hae to understand the difference between the Repubs very visceral psychological appeal and be able to appeal at that same level.

8. Exactly> What's not good enough about that? PLUS --
we also have demographics on our side AND the fact that in ALL the polls, our positions on things are always what the majority of Americans prefer.

This is why they have to lie about everything:

* who they are
* what they stand for
* what their true agenda is
* the names of their bills (sound like Dem initiatives)
* the impact of their bills
* and everything in between

AND rig the system:

* redistricting in off-years to prevent Dems from getting elected
* electoral fraud
* vote suppression
* near total manipulation of the media
* and anything/everything else they can think of.

10. Redneck--Did Ja' Read my Post?????????????
Too long, huh. How's that for condesending!!! I told you what they pump to the people and I told you what we need to do to counteract their big three. Is explaining their Jesus in terms that really are in the Bible condesending? Is substituting class warfare for the hatred they want to spew (but is not called warfare..class or not) condesending. Is telling them what indeed empowers them (and it isn't guns)and telling them to fight for that empowerment condesending?? Those 3 are the cornerstone of their wins. If we don't both counteract those cornerstones and substitute for them, we will lose. That may be condesending...but, psssst...it's true.

7. Love, equality and justice...
...it's not the opposite of their small minded shit, it's the answer though.

When they talk about God, we talk about love, even God's love, if we are so inclined. God's love doesn't bomb innocents over lies to steal their oil.

When they talk about gays, we talk about equality. Respect for dissent, differences...that's "American". Hatred is or should be anathma to the "american spirit".

etc...

14. Well, "Business as usual" sure didn't sell.
Let's hope Dean manages to brush those timid old maids in pants called the DLC aside so that the party can once again tackle working class economic issues.

My guess is that god, guns and gays wouldn't have sold nearly as well had tax cuts not been dangled in front of the faithful to sweeten the pot.

15. What the Dems bring to the table
Here's a parable on the astonishing accomplishments of "liberals". We stand for things that are being taken for granted by the public. I don't know who wrote this piece-- it was floating around on the web and one of my sisters sent it to me-- but I think it's totally brilliant.

If you haven't seen this, enjoy!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of Joe's medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal
fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If
Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker
compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some
bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

After work this evening, Joe plans to visit his father at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home.

His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded
rural electrification.

Joe is happy to see his father, who is now retired and lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk
show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.

Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our
lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

16. Texas Lawyer---Right on the Money and Exactly the Stuff that
our Liberal Leaders (well then again.....)need to start reminding the people of. What they don't seem to know in the high levels of this party is that the common man/woman really, really doesn't know this. They think these things are there simply because they come with the birth certificate that one was "born in America" and they don't understand how they are under attack and ready to be flushed by these latter day robber barrons (many of whom are not even citizens of this country but own a big chunk of various corporations). We so sorely need to tell the people what we HAVE done along with exposing these frauds and their manipulation.

21. It's so damned true!!
If a government program, grant, or tax break benefits the wealthy, it's an economic stimulus package. If it directly benefits the poor, working, or middle class, it's socialism and un-American.

17. The three E's
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 07:21 PM by uberotto
Education, Environment and the Economy.

It just doesn't have that same Red Neck appeal that attracts all of those "Mainstream American" voters, does it.

Problem with the three E's is that they are almost always accompanied by a fourth e, effort (it's a little e, because it doesn't take too much), because that is what the three E's require from all Americans.

That's why all hard working, intelligent people are Democrats and all Republicans are stupid, lazy assholes.

help Democrat Brian Schweitzer win the governorship in the very red state of Montana?

Granted he presented the issue more as "save the outdoors for our sportsman" than "love your mother", but it's my understanding that this issue was a key part of his campaign.

And please... all three in that phrase have to be true to be relevant!

And just for shits and giggles...

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

As opposed to rePukes...

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
