Maya Marcel-Keyes Takes GAY Stand Against Her Father NeoCon Politician

Rob Roehr released an article the other day about Maya Marcel-Keyes, a gay activist. her story is one of bravery, and sadness showing how a politician broke ties with his own daughter over the gay-issue plaguing neoconservatives. This is a story by Pride Source that should make all of us a bit prouder today that we're on the right left side of humane issues facing our nation these days. I'm not gay, but I'm proud of this young lady and feel her pain, as many of you most certainly will, as well I caught her on my local news last night, and though she was a bit nervous in front of the cameras, you could see the pain in her eyes... a heart wrenching type that broke mine.

Maya Marcel-Keyes made her debut as a gay activist at a rally by supporters for LGBT rights in Annapolis, Maryland on Valentine's Day. Defining herself as a "liberal queer," the 19 year-old urged support for young gays and lesbians deserted by their families.

During that campaign Alan Keyes called homosexuality "selfish hedonism" and linked that description to Mary Cheney, daughter of the Vice President. Maya said her parents "were not too pleased" to learn that she is a lesbian. "As long as I was quiet about being gay or my politics, we got along," she told the Washington Post.

But her nascent political activism recently led them to break all ties with their young daughter. She was fired from a job with her dad's political organization, told to leave his apartment where she was living in Illinois, and not to expect any financial support for college.

Ms. Maya Marcel Keyes had this to say on her blog: "Most parents would be thrilled to have a child who doesn't smoke, have sex, do drugs, hardly drinks ... does well in school, gets good grades, gets into the Ivy League ... goes regularly to church, spends free time mentoring kids." Her father had this to say, "My daughter is an adult, and she is responsible for her own actions. What she chooses to do has nothing to do with my work or political activities."

:cry: I'm glad she's doing good though. Maybe she can be like David Brock. One of those "I used to be one of them" type of stories. Who knows? Maybe she could be speaking at the DNC convention in 2008.

She did seem sweet and kind. You tell me why and we'll both know. Politics means more then you're own child!?!? Sad stuff. These people have no shame, and are void of compassion - I mean, you're own child.

Yes. She'll be a great mentor for others, I believe. That's why I put this out here hoping it will help others.

... is a soulless idiot. She's only 19 and she makes the Bushtard twins look like gutter flotsam. Courageous, loving, bright as a new penny, and considerate, she just SHINES. If anything totally condemns Alan Keyes for being a self-rightious asshole, it's certainly his abominable attitude regarding his daughter. He should be on his knees giving thanks for such an outstanding young woman.

He's spineless, and that's putting it bluntly! Money, Power, Greed, Lust for the Political-Machine position overrides one's natural parental love, caring and protection goes pass abominable - it's disgusting and Alan Keyes sold his soul down the river on this one.

His daughter certainly does shine above them all! If only he knew what he had!
