If you're new to the Jeff Gannon story ... well, to borrow a phrase from Dave Barry, we're not making this up.
Gannon worked for an online outfit called Talon News. He was a fixture in the White House briefing room, obtaining daily press passes virtually every day for two years or so. A few weeks ago Gannon, known for partisan questions that were often mini-editorials, asked President Bush a question about cooperation with Democrats on economic issues, a question that ended with the line, "How are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?''
And that's when reality began to catch up with Gannon himself.
He essentially appears to have been a mock reporter using a bogus name working for a fake news organization.
Bloggers began digging around into his background, quickly finding Jeff Gannon was actually one James Guckert. Talon News, it turns out, was owned by a recent delegate to the GOP national convention who also owns the online site GOPUSA. Guckert made further news when it was discovered he had made other ... ah, appearances on the Internet that at the very least build a strong circumstantial case that he has moonlighted as a male prostitute of sorts.
