The pathological dishonesty of some Dean critics
In this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1629619&mesg_id=1629619

We are asked Where was Dean on NPR this morning. Unlike everyone who responded on that thread I actually listened to the NPR story in question. And instead of what this poster described:

I just heard an NPR Morning Edition interview with GOP flack Ken Mehlman on the subject of Social Security (100% baloney, naturally, including the reasons Democratic reps will not want to be left behind) that ended with the words, "We also extended an invitation to Democrat Howard Dean."

Is Dean now ducking the press on Social Security, and if so, why?

Which clearly implies a debate was envisioned, I found what is obviously a series on NPR. The report in question eminated from Melhman's office and was clearly geared toward interviewing just him. He was asked about Bush's comments in specific detail (not as dishonestly presented a general discussion of SS policy). He was also asked about outreach to black voters due to Melhman having stated that he wishes to do that.

Let me be blunt here. This wasn't an honest mistake. This was a calculated deception. It is literally impossible to have listened to that report and come away with the idea that Dean skipped out on a joint appearence. It is pathological dishonesty at its worst.

1. Dean has already

issued MANY statements about social security, despite the efforts of certain elements of the party to keep him quiet on policy issues. If NPR wants a quote from Dean on the topic, they can try Google.

Edit: spelling

3. The point is
that this was not to be a two sided forum but part of a series. Only Melhman was supposed to be there and thus only Melhman was.

5. Word
that was more of a response to the "why is Dean silent on this important issue?" crowd.

2. I think maybe Dean might be waiting to see the Bush plan - you know - pen
to paper (kind aw like boots on the ground).

6. I wouldn't give too much credence to this particular poster, dsc

I think most of his posts have always shown blatant bias against the DNC chair, though I'm glad you corrected the record.

7. No problem
I just am pissed I couldn't post earlier. I lost my plan period today and never got time to post until I got home.

11. This is the first time in a long time...
...that the DNC has a Chair that represents a true majority of Democrats instead of the interests of the right wing of the Democratic party.

I believe their main concern is that Dean might wake up a segment of the party that has been voting for DLC candidates because they were told (by the DLC) that someone more progressive couldn't win.

The battle for control of the party between the left and right factions continues. Dean represents the kind of strong leadership the DLC fears will put an end to their hold on the party. Dean has an advantage because he has millions of Dems behind him that wants to see the party move beyond the appeasement politics of the Neodems.

12. come on now...
If Dean didn't pose a genuine threat to the Repug's... You wouldn't be hearing a thing about him. The fact that they are actively campaigning to smear him only gives me more reason to support him. I like anything that scares the Pugs!
