Jim Gibbons, R-Nevada, too DUMB to write his own hate speech
What does it say when your congressman is too lazy or stupid to come up with his own hate speech?

http://www.elkodaily.com/articles/2005/03/03/news/local/news1.txt

Gibbons excerpt, from the above link:

"We are all here tonight because men and women of the United States military have given their lives for our freedom," Gibbons continued. "We are here tonight not because of Rosie O'Donnell, Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Jane Fonda or Phil Donahue - they never sacrificed their lives for us or for liberty."

Gibbons said it was not movie stars but soldiers and sailors that defended freedom in the deserts of Iraq, the jungles of Vietnam, the sands of Iwo Jima and the beaches of Normandy.

"I say we tell those liberal, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, hippie, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and their music and whine somewhere else," Gibbons said to another burst of applause.

He said if they lived in Iraq or Afghanistan, "Ironically they would be put to death at the hands of Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden."

Gibbons brought the crowd to near feverish pitch when he hit the hot button issue of abortion.

"I want to know how these very people who are against war because of loss of life can possibly be the same people who are for abortion?" Gibbons said. "They are the same people who are for animal rights, but they are not for the rights of the unborn."
======================================================================
And an excerpt from the copyrighted hate speech he stole it from, by Alabama state auditor Beth Chapman in 2003:

"I’m here tonight because men and women of the United States military have given their lives for my freedom. I am not here tonight because Sheryl Crowe, Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, the Dixie Chicks, Barbra Streisand, George Clooney or Phil Donahue, sacrificed their lives for me.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was not movie stars or musicians, but the United States Military who fought on the shores of Iwo Jima the jungles of Vietnam , and the beaches of Normandy .

Tonight, I say we should support the President of the United States and the U.S. military and tell the liberal, tree-hugging, hippy, Birkenstock wearing, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and music and whine somewhere else.

After all, if they lived in Iraq , they wouldn’t be allowed the freedom of speech they’re being given here today - - ironically, they would be put to death at the hands of Sadam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden." link: http://www.bethchapman.com/stand%20up%20speech.htm

:wow:

This is too damn good!

Nevadans, start your LTTE engines! Un-effin'-believable.

Wait, of course it's believable--but TOO GOOD!

Edit: I think we may need to do a screen capture of the original--this isn't the first time I've seen Rs parrot the same tps, but possibly the first it's been so blatant.

I don't know how to do one--but this is too good to let drop.

27. This story ran in our local paper in hugh headlines last night ...
but even better, were the many out of state letters to the editor that came in from all over and soundly spanking this idiot for his human shield comment. Even veterans of war wrote in slamming him. He got slammed about WMD being a lie for the war and how angry this made people. This type of speech rarely gets expressed in Elko, Nevada.

Note: Gibbons is the fucker who brought Dick Cheney here in the fall and even though the slime asses used our local tax dollars to provide security, use our high school football field, etc. they barred Democrats from going inside the football arena with secret service agents, even high school kids who had no police records, etc.

OK. Her site says that the speech is copyrighted, but it doesn't say it was copyrighted by her. It may be a stock hate speech written by some nameless RW hack for use by any RWer who cares to use it.

I say keep digging. Find the source, who I suspect is not Beth Chapeman any more than it is Jim Gibbons.

tree-hugging rosie O'Donnell Saddam Hussein

there was a crazy preacher in Kentucky using all the same people in his speeches but not in the same words. I think perhaps someone's constructed an "out" list for the lunatics to repeat on end.

Here's a link on edit: crazy crazy stuff

anything other than Chapman. It's a near certainty a state auditor had some "aid" crafting her little paranoid ditty. It would have been focus group tested and everything. I suppose the answer to "who wrote it?" would be hidden away in a trade secret far away from the "intranets". What about her book? Any indication there was a ghost writer on board? It was an awful quick turn around from speech to publication for a state employee who no doubt is not an avid writer.

Focus-tested sounds right. There's got to be an earlier prototype out there. I'll look some more.

25. I had an exchange of e-mails with Ms. Chapman several months ago.
It was ascerbic, to say the least.
She finally gave up and said she'd pray for me.
I promised to return the favor.
She's a real piece of far right-wing work.

12. All the links in google make me surprised that someone in
the audience hadn't heard it. The chapman speech made the rounds all the way through freeperville and back. Every lunatic fringe and their mother had turns posting segments of it on message boards and the like.

It was so widely reported inside the propaganda channels that I bet it wouldn't even matter just as long as someone repeated it again for them to relish in the hatefilled spunkdumpster that is Beth Chapman.

If he didn't purchase it, its probably being donated to rally the SS back to the scene of all the metaphorical book burnings, waterboardings and other such inquistorial nonesense. I'd wager this is not the last time we see it.

30. That book is either self- or vanity published.
Don't be surprised if she did write it herself, with no "ghost." I review titles for a library, and there are an awful lot of people who think they can go it alone, usually with embarrassing results (budding writers: PAY FOR AN EDITOR, 'cause your labor of love doesn't go past me without evidence of one).

We are offered at least a dozen a month of these types of efforts.

Ms. Chapman is likely one of them.

I still suspect there's a group of HF interns cranking out speeches for lower-level RWers, though.

26. At least he's not a chickenhawk
He served honorably and is a decorated combat pilot, according to his website:

<snip>

Prior to coming to Congress, Gibbons gained a distinguished military background. A former combat pilot and decorated veteran of both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars, Congressman Gibbons served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 and graduated from the USAF Air Command and Staff College as well as the Air War College. Attaining the rank of Colonel, Gibbons joined the Nevada Air Guard in 1975, and served as the group's Vice Commander from 1990 through 1996.

Throughout his military service, Gibbons received 19 service medals, including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Aerial Achievement Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his extraordinary achievement while participating as an RF-4C Flight Leader in the Gulf War. On this mission, Gibbons flew his unarmed aircraft on a vital reconnaissance mission to acquire politically sensitive imagery of enemy targets in Kuwait.

He can't just admit that he ripped it off. That would be accepting responsibility for something, which can get you kicked out of the Republican Party.

Nevada congressman apologizes for 'borrowing' speech

By BRENDAN RILEY
ASSOCIATED PRESS

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., apologized Thursday for what he termed the inadvertent recycling of an Alabama Republican's liberal-bashing speech she gave in 2003 - without giving her any credit for the remarks.

In a recent Lincoln Day dinner in Elko, Gibbons, a likely candidate for governor next year, praised efforts of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and accused liberals, movie stars and singers of "trying to divide this country."

< snip >

Gibbons said "some time back" he got an e-mail with the words but "certainly didn't know the text was a speech or that it was copyrighted. When I found out, the first thing I did was call Ms. Beth Chapman to apologize."

"We had a nice chat and she was very cordial and understanding," Gibbons said, adding that had he known she was the author he would have credited her.

Imagine telling a professor that you "inadvertently recycled" a paper.

Pretty sure he earned his way into the #1 Conservative Idiot with that line.

That is the funniest thing I've read in a loooooooong time.

29. The RW parrots talking points, it isn't a stretch to think that there's
a group of HF and AEI interns writing this stuff for lower level RW officeholders, do you think? These bozos can't afford professional speechwriters, apparently.

I can believe Ms. Chapman couldn't, but a US Rep?

I think this bears some looking into, but I'm not sure how one can proceed. Toss me some ideas, and I'll be happy to do what I can.

That'd be some good red meat. :D I'm just, you know, taking a wild guess, but I'm gonna go on ahead and assume this guy's never served a day in the armed forces. And oh yeah, maybe Gibbons should take his head out of his ass and take a look at the Governor of the state to the west of Nevada.
