What happens with this "Privatizing" where we just take our own money "Unmatched" and put a portion into Bush's Wall St. Accounts which are chosen by them.

Does our "employers" still "MATCH" our contribution? Or, are we on our own. If we are "on our own" this doesn't seem like a good thing. We've lost "HALF" our savings for our "insurance plan" if our employer isn't "kicking in." Sounds like a boondoggle for Employers to me.

Anyone know the Deal on this?

2. well it turns out that there is no plan
so your guess is as good as mine. The rethug strategy is to talk up a crisis storm and then let the democrats shoot down lots of plans they never proposed. Eventually they will find 6 dinos who will fall for some compromise that the dinos have themse3lves put forward and then they will sneak in the cola adjustment that will screw all of us and that will be the end of it.

Their plan is to be all hat and no cattle on ss and let the democrats hang themselves. We are so nuanced and clever that we will of course fall for it as we practice our intellectual jui-jitsu on those stupid rethuglicans.

3. The employer portion goes into the trust fund
and is used to pay the (reduced) guaranteed benefit under Social Security.

4. Nope, your employer doesn't contribute
and another little portion of the scam is that if you die before you turn 65 (or soon after), your heirs get nothing. All your contributions revert to the government. Now THAT is a DEATH TAX!!!!!

It's a scam. It's a money grab by Wall Street. It further defunds a system they're screaming is running out of money.

Fight it tooth and nail. It's almost all we have left!

7. Seriously? My "Personal" account
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 11:53 AM by Kber
reverts to the gov't, not my spouse or orphaned kids if I die?

Um - it's not that I am really counting on SS for my retirement (at least not solely), but I do buy into the idea a tax to keep a respected and potentially vunerable section of society from poverty - i.e. my grandparents and parents. I'm OK with that - just part of being part of a responsible and compassionate society IMO.

But, to tell me that it's "my money", and then have it vanish into some dark hole if I die - WTF?

And wasn't Bush pushing this as a way to elliviate the discrimination against African Americans who are "cheated" out of SS because they have a lower life expectancy? Um - explain to me how this helps them or their families again.

Sheesh!

on edit - is there a link to the "official" gov't sponsered proposal (not the USA News version) anywhere?
