Reid calls Greenspan a "political hack" - Go Harry Go!!!
Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan generally gets accolades for his public pronouncements. Yesterday he got a brickbat from Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), who blasted Greenspan as "one of the biggest political hacks we have here in Washington."

Reid ripped Greenspan during an interview on CNN's "Inside Politics." He said the Fed chairman has given President Bush a pass on deficits that have built up in the past four years and should be challenging Republicans on their fiscal policies, rather than promoting Bush's plan to introduce personal accounts into Social Security.

"I'm not a big Greenspan fan -- Alan Greenspan fan," Reid said when asked about the Fed chairman's testimony this week urging Congress to deal quickly with the financial problems facing Social Security and Medicare. "I voted against him the last two times. I think he's one of the biggest political hacks we have in Washington."

...

"Why doesn't he respond to the Republicans and tell them the big problem here is the debt that this administration is created?" he said. "We had a $7 trillion-dollar surplus when Bush took office. Now we have a $3 or $4 trillion-dollar deficit. That's, in fact, what Greenspan should be telling people."

Wow. I had not heard about this. It is very heartening to see this kind of uncompromising, tough, truth telling by Sen Reid. The issue of the debt and defecit should be hammered ad nauseum by each and every Democrat and it's nice to see Andrea Mitchell's husband get the kind of respect he deserves.

1. Reid's a lot better than most people think.
He's not incredibly outspoken, but when he is, watch out.

2. The GOP must be held accountable for being fiscally irresponsible
there still exists this myth in the land that the GOP is the party of balanced budgets and pay as you go government. This myth must be shattered. It shouldn't be too hard the facts are all there. It just must be a talking point that Dems repeat again and again.

3. More and more are joining me (ha) in labeling Greenspan for what he is:
a partisan shilling hack who will likely have done more harm to this country than almost anyone in its history by politicizing his office in the worst possible way. I say again that his name should forevermore live in infamy as long as this Republic lives.

5. Greenspan has jumped the shark
He's always been a Randite pos but that last perfomance should lift the veil from the eyes of the most self deluded.

Starting to like that Reid feller.
