Democratic Party Financing?
I have a question. Is it possible for the Democratic Party to withhold endorsing and financing Democratic Congresspersons who cross the aisle and vote with Republicans on bills that go against core Democratic principles? I say this in light of the recent votes cast by several Democrats on Amendments to the Bankrupcy bill being discussed in Congress. I suspect that they will likely vote for the bill itself as well when it comes up for vote. Specifically three Senators who voted to reject the majority of the Amendments being proposed by Democrat's. Sen. Nelson of Nebraska, Sen. Johnson of S. Dakota, and Sen. Carper of Deleware. I mean if they don't have the spine to stand with thier party, even in a losing cause to show support and solidarity, then are they really Democrats? If they aren't then why should the party help to finance thier campaigns? Should we even allow them to call themselves Democrat's at all? Maybe force them to wear the Redcoats since they seem to like the fit?

2. I'm not familiar with the rules.
But my guess is, no, the DNC probably can't do that. If they win the Democratic party nomination for their office, I think the party is obligated to 'officially' support them.

How enthusiastic that official support is, is another matter.

3. Good question, actually. I know I'm going to watch very carefully
where my donation money goes from now on, especially when I can give to PACS.

I've refused to work on the campaigns of some Dems I've had fundamental disagreements with. I can't see why that couldn't apply to our own donations...?

Anyone have the nitty-gritty on this?

4. I hear ya.
Thats the same thing I say when people talk about if I support higher taxes. I have no problem paying more taxes as soon as I can choose what my tax dollars are spent on.

5. I'm kinda surprised actually
that someone on here doesn't know or doesn't at least have an opinion on the matter.

6. Well they could, but won't:

They can't keep members from using donor lists they already have, and spending money that they raised themselves.

The DCCC/DSCC could decide to focus on campaigns elsewhere, but that really wouldn't serve their interests. And it would just be bad politics for them to say, "We're not helping you because you voted this way on issue X." American parties need to be as broad as possible, so that means lots of internal disagreement among different factions of the party. As long as you're generally supportive of the party, they'll help you, even if you vote with the Republicans some of the time. That said, I don't think the DSCC would've helped Zell Miller had he chose to run for re-election in 2004.

There have been times when candidates for Governor--especially in the south--have asked the national party to stay out of their state. That has more to do with not wanting to be seen as the candidate of northern Democrats.

7. i'm just so frustrated seeing
Democrats voting against the party on key issues. Or allowing the passage of repug issues with barely a whimper. You just don't see that from the other side very often. It's a rare bill that is bad enough that even some red's look at it and say... no thanks. I understand that there are many times in which voting for a red bill or against a blue bill is nothing to be alarmed about. but some do it far to frequently for it to simply be a non-partisan gesture, or result of compromises made to secure thier vote. Some vote in disturbing ways far too frequently for me to want to support them as a Democrat.
