Social Security is in a situation that can only be repaired in the long term by taking in more money or paying out less. The Bush proposal is heavily weighted toward on the paying out less side. I propose he be less timid and go all the way.
The solution is obvious, and was given to us centuries ago by Jonathan Swift. Why not just kill our old people when they reach retirement age? That way SS would have to pay out nothing in old-age benefits. Of course, Swift applied the idea to children, not the aged, but that's a trivial difference--I'd have thought some neocon would have come up with the application of the basic principle by now.
Swift envisioned using the children as food. Could we not do the same with the old folks? See the movie "Soylent Green" for the benefits to society that would ensue.
If you think it's a young person writing this, you're wrong.
If you think it's a serious proposal, you're wrong.
But if Bush continues to push his disastrous proposal the way he promises, we could at least suggest he look into this as an alternative. If he wants to make it an intergenerational war, let's suggest he go all the way.
