Anybody get to hear what Bush said? Someone said that he said he
actually enjoy telling people how bad the "SS problem" is. He just seems to sound crazier and cazier lately.

Side note I did hear NPR talking about how Bush's audience and speakers are basically handpicked and designed to encourage support. It sounds to me as if some news organizations are slowly rebelling.

1. Republicans lie to get what they want

Create a false sense of support, cite phony statistics, create a false Social Security crisis...

the GOP lies to get what it wants. Its the principle they demonstrate everyday, they'll lie about anything.

21. Well, at least the Dimwit uttered one truthful statement...
"THE PRESIDENT: You know what's interesting about this subject? I was just looking at Dr. Brown, he's a young-looking guy -- and I was thinking about when I was his age, I don't remember much discussion about Social Security being in trouble."

Hell, Shrub couldn't possibly remember anything at all from when he was this guy's age, since he was in a perpetual alcohol/drug induced haze.

Come to think of it...he still is.

2. I believe it...
* only allows hand-picked, loyalty-oath signing lemmings in the doors.

The protesters aren't even allowed within 2 miles of his speeches.

This cowardly bastard is truly the Boy in the Bubble.

Maybe he'd like to play Trivial Pursuit with George Castanza!

President Participates in Social Security Conversation in Indiana
Joyce Center
University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, Indiana

4:25 P.M. EST

-snips-

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Please be seated. Thanks for coming. (Laughter.)...................First, this is a serious conversation, and it's an important conversation -- a conversation about the future of the country. And I want to thank Father Malloy and Father Jenkins for letting us come to this fantastic -- letting me come back to this fantastic university. I come back as a graduate -- well, kind of a graduate. I got a degree -- (laughter) -- honorary degree. (Laughter.) For all you C students out there, it's amazing what can happen to you if you keep working hard. (Laughter and applause.)

--------------------------------
MRS. BATTERBEE: We have 35 grandchildren. (Applause.) And we have six great-grandchildren. But, first, Mr. President, I think it's an honor to be here. I'm so delighted.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, thanks for coming, Betty. I appreciate you saying that.

MRS. BATTERBEE: And I have a message that I would like you to take to Laura. We think she is a gracious and adorable First Lady, and we're so proud she's our First Lady. (Applause.)

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. I'm proud of her. Thank you, Betty. Social Security. (Laughter.)

----------------------------

MR. BATTERBEE: My name is Mark Batterbee, and this is my very gracious wife, Betty. I served as a pastor in the missionary church for over 40 years in Michigan and in the Michiana area. I retired just about three years ago. I have to say something, Mr. President -- how much I appreciate and I believe how much we appreciate the strong leadership that you have provided in the office of President of the United States. (Applause.)

THE PRESIDENT: I appreciate that, thank you. (Applause.) Thank you all. (Applause.) Okay. They got to go back to work here. Thank you. Thanks.

MR. BATTERBEE: Also I want to say that as a -- maybe I shouldn't -- as a "evangelical" myself, I want to say how much I have appreciated the moral and -- leadership that he has provided for all of us, and the fact that he has been an example for the youth of America and for everyone.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you. (Applause.)

-----------------------------

DR. BROWN: I'm a Ph.D. in economics and I'm a professor at one of the other great Midwestern universities.

THE PRESIDENT: Ph.D. in economics. It's an interesting lesson, isn't it? He's the advisor and the Ph.D. I'm the President and a fair student. (Laughter and applause.)

All right, Doc. You're an expert on Social Security.

DR. BROWN: That's right. I've been studying it for about a decade now, and the good news is, it doesn't really require a Ph.D. to understand that the program is in trouble.

------------------------------------

THE PRESIDENT: I'm honored you all came. I hope you've enjoyed this as much as I have. May God bless you all, and may God continue to bless our country. (Applause.)

END 5:14 P.M. EST

11. The idiot thinks he's Johnny Carson. The fact is that if he is in
the presence of only his backers, he has developed a workable stand up comic sense of timing. He knows how to signal the audience to laugh. But, in only works with base people. The rest of us don't know whether to laugh or cry.

7. PBS's Newshour showed the protesters in counterpoint to the handpicked
Bush audience with the chimp.

Looked like the huge protest crowds were all vocal and letting the media have it, almost like a '60's anti-war rally.

The Republicans deserve a 'scorched earth' response from the Dems until the Dems actually see some good-faith actions. Sen Reid and Rep Pelosi should determine exactly what that should be, and the troops (fellow Dems) should act accordingly.

Following the rigid tactics the Republicans have taught the Dems to use is only 'turnabout is fair play' !

Must view, their report was "fair and balanced". Even a bit tilted to the left!

19. He doesn't need converts more than he needed voters. Smoke&mirrors
Part of creating that new reality. Once they ram this thing, the neverending images of smitten supporters will serve as fundation to "you asked for it, you got it" rhetoric.

President Bush Holds Citizen Meetings on Social Security

<http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4523308>

All Things Considered, March 4, 2005 · In Westfield, N.J., President Bush holds meetings with invited citizens on his plans to overhaul Social Security. The meeting format might be described as "town hall," but many of those onstage with Bush in the meetings were handpicked by the administration and already held favorable views of Bush's proposal.
