Talented Duers: Stop Feeding the Beast!
Jennifer Nix points out a paradox that needs to be addressed. Why are we, the actors, artists, activists and writers still aiding and abetting the corporatocracy?

"I've got an invitation for all progressive authors out there.
How about putting your money and ideas where your mouths are? Why not work with independent book publishers to share with the public your thoughts about progressive politics, social justice, sustainability and media reform ... instead of lining the pockets of the corporate publishers (and ultimately the five or ten rich white men who control nearly every media message we read and hear in the U.S. today)."
This is an important read:

2. It's called "making a living"
Artists and writers have families to support, just like everyone else. Why should they and they alone refuse to work for corporations? Isn't anyone who works for a big corporation or who buys what corporations sell "feeding the beast?"

4. Read the article. If you are in the position where there are alternatives
eg Michael Moore you have to "walk the walk" not just talk. I'm addressing this to those who advocate for change not the me-first crowd.

5. Let me repeat that.

Why is it always artists who are asked to bite the economic bullet for progressive causes? Moore's entitled to the maximum reward for his work, and that's what his business decisions are based on. Why should he marginalize himself by going with an independent press? For some reason, progressives think that artists ought to work for free--or should at least not be motivated by money. Why not ask the same of progressive doctors, lawyers and accountants? Aren't they all working for the man?

7. you're obviously quite happy with the way things are. That's fine
but don't complain about the corruption. Fortunately not everyone is out to "game" the system and "maximize" their $$$..it's called having integrity.

3. It's kinda already in progress
I haven't bought a NYTimes in a year--so as a "news consumer" I'm making my own small contribution--although the NYTs does give us Paul Krugman, the mighty guy.
