Microsoft to pull out of MSNBC?

Microsoft and NBC, joint owners of the network and its companion news portal, are in "advanced discussions" over the sale of the software giant's stake to NBC, according to The New York Post.

Under the potential deal, NBC would take sole control of the news company, with Microsoft having rights to use some of its online news content, according to the paper.

Microsoft's involvement in the venture, which cost it an initial investment of about $250 million, has never seen the hoped-for returns. The channel, which was created in 1996, saw its first quarterly profit last year.

Should Microsoft shed its involvement in the news venture, it wouldn't be the first time the software giant has distanced itself from a content provider. Last year, the company sold its Slate online publication to the Washington Post Co. It also previously sold its 70 percent stake in travel company Expedia. Microsoft did not respond to requests for comment.

to someone like Soros. They know all too well what that would mean to their boy king and therefore to themselves. I sure hope something like this would come to pass though. Maybe if the price were right they who knows.

Thanks to owning one of the major news sources in this country, GE is making record profits. Their defense contracts are raking in BILLIONS of our tax dollars. They would never sell that share, especially to anyone who supports Democrats.

Notice the article says "Microsoft" will still have "access to content."

What the Hell does "access to content" mean? :shrug:

Give it up...Our only hope is that Soros has begun buying stock in CNN...if he quietly accumulates a "position" in their stock then he has a major say in it.

GE/MSNBC is a lost cause, unfortunately. I would wish that someone looking to create a cable network that's "balanced and has folks from all sides...ALL SIDES" could make it. But, GE has too much at stake getting Bushie funding for it's war and med efforts to allow a Soros to buy.

which might only mean to disseminate through some MS product the inforamtion. How are Bush and Scaife involved? (Not Rhetorical - I'm confused on who is controlling MSNBC, which went from ok/good in 2000 to often as bad as fox last year.
