What a day! Got up and met Senators Dorgen, Durbin ,and Reid
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 06:41 PM by saracat
and filmed the Social Security road show. Then we grabbed the camera and ran to the ALCU lunch where we visited with Ben -Veniste of the 9-11 Commission and my friend Gloria Felt of Planned Parenthood , who won the Libertarian of the Year award! I am exhausted but a really productive day. I feel our party is on the move.
A little old man who was on the SS platform spoke about the stolen election and votes in Ohio and Florida and he got quite a ovation from the crowd. And the Senators looked as if they agreed. Reid especially nodded his head and smiled. We can do anything if we hang together folks! I am psyched. I feel more optimistic than I have in a long time. If you all have a chance to go to a road show near you ,GO! The Senators say they are going to match Bush for every appearance he makes. They are going next to Nevada.Get out and show your support.

5. I love Durbin...
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 06:56 PM by reichstag911
...for '08! I saw him Monday with Obama and Rep. Jan Schakowsky at Loyola U. here in Chicago. I coulda reached out and given him a hug without getting up from my chair...probably would have been frowned upon, though...

I remember you, thanking him for those votes. That was awesome!

...he gave me that nice little pat on the shoulder for that. I felt like I'd been a good little doggie, not a frequent feeling when interacting with authority figures.

As for your self-description, without a picture of a face or a common fram of reference, I am almost aphasic when it comes to remembering identifying details, especially in a crowd: hair, jacket, etc. Email me a pic, maybe I'll remember having seen you as I was leaving (since I was obviously facing front, that would likely be the only time I could have seen you).

9. Well, I'll never like what the DLC has done but I will always be a Dem.
I just want us to support progressive values and not cave! It sure is good to see them fight back. I also am working on a neat project for my home state party that could have positive repercussions and the best way to beat negativity is to be productive!:)

I really believe that they KNOW now that they can't depend on the GOP controlled media and that forums like this will help until the media regains some semblance of fairness.

This is the best message I've seen in weeks, and I've seen some great ones. You captured everything that gives me hope about our party. Dorgen, Durbin and Reid don't go to the hair dresser before they hit the road and they don't need the approving nod from CM (corporate media) to take the lead. They are smart, tough guys. I'm proud to be in a party lead by these outstanding people.

Who greeted me with "I talk to you on the DU!"

Anyway I met Drogan and Durbin and had them say Hi! to my friends at the ASUYDs...and the little old man was so neat! He had a great story about bananas and doing everything you can for your country.

didn't know I was Saracat! Giggle. I always thought because I knew you, that you knew who I was! Duh! That was an interesting though odd story about the bananas! I did like when he spoke about the importance of a single vote though. That was the highlight for me!:kick: :hi:

29. DON'T MISS THIS.
I got word of it only the night before and had to make arrangements in eight hours to be there.

Well worth it. Listen carefully, and you'll hear a real case for grassroots action, too.

My politically savvy 8 yr old son shook all their hands, and really enjoyed Representative Pastor, and was suitably wowed by shaking Minority Leader Reid's hand (he knew what being a minority leader means).

Watch your e-mails and state forums carefully for info. I was surprised at how little notice I had.

It made me damn proud to be raising a 4th generation yellow dog.

The Democrats I grew up with are back, and I couldn't be happier about it!

31. Email propaganda...as response to these Senators....?
Just sent to me by a well-meaning friend. It looks like an attempt to discredit anyone who doesn't want to "fix" Social Security.

(I received it in huge, brightly colored font. Sorry I can't reproduce it here!)

DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!

KEEP IT GOING!!!!

2008 Election Issue!!

GET A BILL STARTED TO PLACE ALL POLITICIANS ON SOC. SEC.

This must be an issue in "2004". Please! Keep it going.

----------------------------------

SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.! !

Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves! . So, many years ago they voted in their own
benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (tha! t's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH....

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into,-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)-we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's ! benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to:

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us .

then sit back.....

and watch how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

Better yet.....

How many people WILL you send this to??

Keep this going clear up thru the 2008 election!! We need to be heard
