Poll question: Do you tell Repugs that you are a Liberal or a Progressive?
Maybe it's others too...they ask "what you are"...

4. I proudly say I'm a radical liberal...and then...
...if they are republicans or Bush lovers and not sufficiently annoyed.. I throw in that I am a socialist as well. The Bush regime has helped contribute to my becoming a "political bigot" and asshole at times. I'm so pissed off--it is so hard to behave.

5. I tell them I'm a PINKO
which I am. They usually don't pursue a political discussion after that, which is just peachy with me.

6. Other.....
I tell them I'm a Democrat. It's been my experience that if I allow "them" to tag me with the "liberal" label, thanks to years of programming by the likes of Oxy-Rush et al they are effectively able to dismiss any and all opinions I might have out of hand. Essentially, I have much in common politically with the people of this board, but I am probably not anything like what "they" have been taught "a Liberal" is. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that their idealized "Liberal" doesn't really exist.

9. Usually no, but depends on the situation
For example I work with a freeper type, but I never discuss my political leanings with him or politics at all. If he says something about politics, I simply don't respond or will change the subject.

Also, generally I would not 'get in someone's face' who I didn't know and tell them I am a liberal Dem and proceed to harangue them for their politics, it just isn't worth it to me.

But if the person is more than an aquiantance, then I don't mind discussing politics with them and will argue strongly for my side. Heck, one of my best friends is a republican.

11. I use both terms...
but I mostly use the term liberal. It's the word they're used to. It's the word most of society is used to.

13. I don't run into many people who want to know my politics ..BUT
ocassionally unsuspecting people bring up a political topic where we discuss various things; on each such ocassion I've had the opening to mention that I'M A LIBERAL. :D Often, that term/word gets a slight facial reaction..it's weird and funny.

Mostly, in friendly company, I use the word Socialist, as that is where my politics run most closely to.

16. I call myself a Socialist, too, but
I have run out of patience with people who ask me to explain why that's not the same thing as a Communist.

15. subtlety works
I take a somewhat subtle approach to their "inquiries." I.E. I have a US flag over crossed black ribbon on my jacket. A VERY Repug woman I work with was talking to me and said, "Oh look, you've got something on your flag" (kind of like to mock me). "Yeah," I said smiling at her, "that's the color of oil." Another asked me, while we are all were in the staff room for lunch, what the black was for. "Did someone die?" The room went very quiet when I said, "Democracy." They all think liberals are extreme or fanatical, they are often stunned when they are addressed with pointed confidence.
