Donna Brazile makes me so mad. Why does she keep
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 01:09 AM by saracat
pandering to the Repugs? She certainly loves to praise them!

Prince George's Community College, Howard University, "The Tavis Smiley Show" and the African American New Jersey Chamber of Commerce -- not the usual itinerary for a new chairman of the Republican National Committee. But Ken Mehlman, who took the job in January after managing the Bush-Cheney reelection campaign, is using a "Conversations with the Community" tour to continue the party's quest to chip away at an ultra-solid Democratic constituency.

"No matter how well we do in elections, the party of Lincoln will not be whole until more African Americans come home," Mehlman said in an interview Friday after visiting the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta.

The party has announced such drives again and again over the years but has made little headway, with many African Americans dismissing the blitzes as little more than rhetoric. But Mehlman received new credibility when Donna L. Brazile, a grass-roots consultant who managed Al Gore's presidential bid, went on NPR to warn Democrats that Mehlman is "now inside the community" and "is a different chairman." Brazile wrote in her "Stirring the Pot" column in Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper: "Among Democrats, Mehlman's efforts should be cause for alarm."

Mehlman, who has raised $935,000 for state and county parties during his travels, pushes President Bush's Social Security, education and faith-based agendas as beneficial to minorities. "My message is: Give us a chance, and we'll give you a choice," he said.

1. Mehlman is alive
to those who have no Christian soul and acknowledgment of our responsibility to the needy.

2. She is not complimenting, she is warning against him.
"Among Democrats, Mehlman's efforts should be cause for alarm."

Because of the way he is working. He is very clever. Your link does not work.

4. But she has complimented both melman and Rove previously.
And she has an implied compliment that he is different etc. She doesn't need to be talking about him at all. You don't give these people any publicity. We don't need to help with his name recognition!

9. She was warning about Mehlman.
I don't think she is that lovey dovey with Rove. I think that is spin.

11. I don't trust her
She sounds like she has more words of praise for Mehlam than for Dean.

It's the likes of her that have led Dems down the path of defeat.

5. African Americans come home?
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 02:30 AM by FreedomAngel82
What? Uhm I don't think they'd be going to the republican party. If she used to work with Al Gore but is now on their side, well then she's a traitor. Nobody needs faith-based agendas/programs! If people don't want to believe like they do don't force it!!! They're just asking for a war on society.

24. Take the blinders off
there has been previous posts about this subject and the threads have been attacked.

The repubs will not get the majority of blacks to switch over. What they can do is take away that cushion of core voters that the dems have always relied upon.

When it comes to race, particularly the black community it is almost like a taboo subject in this group.

Take the blinders off, the repubs are not going after the labor vote, they are going not going after the gay vote, but they are going after that Black and Hispanic vote.

Once again they will not get a solid bloc from these two groups, but they can take away that cushion.

7. She, is , as the column she is quoted from is entitled,
"stirring the pot" She is not right. She is only interested in herself. Maybe it is wishful thinking. Maybe she wants to join her good "friends" Bayh Buchanen and Karl Rove in the party of Lincoln!

18. no, no, no! the point i'm making is this ...
is Mehlman right?

I saw some movement toward the gop in the last election from some of the local African-American churches and let me tell you ... that worries the shit out of me. One fellow I work with is a preacher and in 2K, he was as solid a Gore supporter as you could want. But in 04, he AND his church went to Bush. Freaked me out and there was no arguing him out of it. I tried.

And ran smack into the social wedges driven by the gop during their last shameless exercise in sophistry, lies, and shit-stirring. Transcend Brazil ... who gives a shit about her? Is Mehlman right? That is the most significant point.

17. The GOP is bereft of integrity & became a majority with Southern Strategy-
former Democrats, mostly in the South, who because of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964, became Republicans--and if they didn't switch parties, voted for the Rethugs anyway.

Today's Republicans are light years away from the "party of Lincoln"--they are more the party of George Wallace, Ralph Reed and corporate "greed heads", who have no thought of anything but the bottom line-- money, and they will string along the rubes with rascist homophobic wedge issues to get what they are after--an America of increasing income disparity with a shrinking middle class--who have been the engine of our prosperity.

19. The next phase
we can expect to see as Dems retake the leadership of their national party will be many of the old insiders of the failed team currying favor with R's. Its about a paycheck, job security.

Of course the old guard was lazy and without any imagination because they were fat and happy as well paid leaders comfortable in their minority status. They're perfect targets for R's to turn against Dems by throwing a few dollars their way.
