We never argue, say presidential odd couple
Telegraph
By Alec Russell in Washington
(Filed: 10/03/2005)

Bill Clinton enjoyed a round of golf yesterday with his old rival turned new buddy, the first President George Bush, in the odd couple's latest outing in front of the cameras.

Such a joint appearance would once have looked like a stuffy piece of presidential protocol. For years Mr Clinton was all but the devil incarnate to diehard Republicans after he upset Mr Bush's bid for re-election in 1992.

- - - -

In a rare public and even Clintonian display of sentiment from an essentially private man, he added: "Maybe I'm the father he never had". Mr Clinton's father died in a car accident a few months before the future president was born.

Mr Clinton too has been the model of courtesy, regularly deferring to his predecessor's extra 22 years of experience, even though, as a two-term president, he technically trumps Mr Bush.

1. Bill, you're breaking my heart...
If you wanted a father figure, did it have to be Bush Sr? I understand...My dad was killed when I was six, so one always looks for a replacement....but did it HAVE to be HIM?

It's like you are spitting in our faces .....

Oh, welll...what the hell...the country has gone to shit anyway.

2. Maybe now Herr Bush finally has the son he always wanted.
Smart, funny, and good with the ladies - not a wiseass, toot-snorting, good-for-nothing ass munch who has always needed someone to bail him out.

A lot of dads who would like to make that switch.

6. That assumes the ex-CIA RNC bagman
has human paternal instincts. Dubya's more than proven himself a true-blue Bush reptile, laying waste to the country and enriching the power and pockets of its rightful masters. I imagine he's tickled with his boy and wouldn't trade him for 10 Clintons.

7. Poppy doesn't know the difference between father hunger & good manners
Proof of Clinton's ability to charm anyone and make them feel cared for. And another example of the Bush tendency to re-write history to make themselves look/feel better.

Poppy, your son is the most hated man in the world. Claim him. He is yours. Your failure as a father is out there for the world to see.

It's Clinton's place to bestow that honor and I doubt very seriously he would choose a scumbag deluxe.
