For all I have been critical of Lieberman, he did something right.

He voted against this loathsome bankruptcy bill.

Maybe there is some Joementum after all!

19. Absolutely
Wasn't it old Joe who waited until the last possible moment to vote on Clarence Thomas years ago - hoping to get to a point where his vote wouldn't matter? I thought he was a weenie then, and he's still a weenie.

2. Vote in both pockets....
he voted against the bill (Hooray!)

he als voted to end the debate, which guaranteed passage of the bill (booooooo)

It's an old legislative trick to please both sides......

4. You got it.....
He's a slick politician, who has no loyalties to any Party, only what will keep him elected.

3. I agree
I've become more and more disillusioned with Lieberman's recent tilt towards the right, but his vote on the bankruptcy legislation was definitely a pleasant surprise.

5. See posts 1, 2, and the dozens to follow.
Lieberman is just playing it safe, since he's up for re-election and there are mumblings about a primary challenge (which I will donate to if they find a great candidate).

This is a smokescreen, not him doing the right thing. Otherwise, he would have voted against cloture.

6. Voting for cloture was voting YES on the bill without actually voting YES
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 04:02 PM by BrklynLiberal
Makes him a double weasel.

7. We cannot be harsh on our own just because we live in harsh times.
We have to be smart. We need a big tent: that is who we are. We cannot knee - jerk (that means you do not think). We are democrats and until you drink the Kool - Aid, you have to think for yourself. And so will everyone else including Liebermann. He is a different person from you and I. But still a Democrat.

15. Zell was a DINO at least Lieberman campaigned for Kerry
Instead of Bush.

And if you look at Lieberman's voting record over at www.vote-smart.org you find he isn't half bad on other issues. He tends to suck rocks mostly on foreign policy.

8. The Potomac Two step
He voted for cloture, that's when his vote really counted!

Got the bill through AND covered his ass.

Cynicism at its finest

12. And that's how they work it... They throw the people a symbolic vote
After paving the way and then checking with their colleagues to make sure the obscenity will go through, they throw a pathethic bone to us that they voted against it. Screw that. Throw the bums out and replace them with people we can count on.

The painful charade has worn too thin.

9. he and the others that voted for cloture enabled the gop
to pass this awful bill. A vote yes for either is a vote against the people.

13. There's nothing there. Don't get fooled.
Had it not had more than enough votes, you can be damn sure he would have voted for it.

You're too kind Fujiyama! Maybe I'm too angry but it's time we stop giving them ANY more free passes.

Sadly, no one ever seems to notice that he's really quite progressive on most issues.

18. think about it for just one millisecond
If this thing had been close, just a vote or two, who here on DU thinks for ONE SECOND that he wouldn't have joined the pukes. He's so far down on the dem shit list he winked and nodded and his masters the pukes let him have this one so he could still pretend to be a dem.

I don't give him one fucking inch. He is a traitor and a duplicitous one at that.
