What Are Our Moral Values?
We have them to. We need to show it.

My number one is compassion. Compassion for those who need it most.

Post yours as well. :)

8. Yes, empathy is one thing that separate us
profoundly from the repukes. They can never see or understand a problem until it happens to them personally. Nancy Reagan with the stem cell research for example. Would she really be vocal about this if she hadn't seen someone she loved who could have benefited?

11. I Doubt It But..
No Matter What I've Said About Her (And I've Said A Lot)..I Do Believe That She Loved Him And That Now It Has Happened To Her Personally..So Now I Empathize With Her Too And Hope That Stem Cell Research Will Eventually Save Others In A Heartache She Knows Firsthand.

5. Moral values? I expect we have the same
as most people, repugs or dem. I am not religious but many repugs and dems are.
This war is not moral; robbing people of their future vis a vis SS is not moral; bankruptcy reform is also not 'moral', but there are a lot of people who are not even aware of what is going on.
The fact that half the country doesn't even believe what's going on because the media is so fucked up-not moral at all. The alternative would be us dems are delusional, and I. Don't. Think. So!

,...of the judicial system). Giving people a fair shake at life/success via as much free education as anyone will take/pursue; living wages and flexible hours to allow folks to raise their children; wide availability of public transportation; guaranteed health care, and more meaningful opportunities to participate in governance.

Those are my two biggies. Compassion is built into both, if ya' think about it.

On edit: geez, almost left out the biggie, "health care"

9. So many these days
on both sides of the political spectrum lament the loss of "morals." I am so offended when the holy-roller "born-agains" couch it in terms of biblical sexual absolutism, and yet have nothing to say about rampant greed, pride and anger within their ranks. YUK.

While compassion is an absolutely noble moral, I feel it is but one. To live a moral life, I believe, overall one must contribute more to society as a whole than what you take from it. Leave things better than how you find them no matter what your station in life.

My wise grandmother, though not religious in the usual sense, always 'preached' the 7 deadly sins. Put these together with Buddah's Eightfold Path and I feel you're on the right track.

7 DEADLY SINS: Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, Sloth
7 HEAVENLY VIRTUES: Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Justice, Temperance, Prudence. (and justice here means fairness)

Buddha's Eightfold Path teaches to strive toward Right Understanding, Thinking, Speech, Conduct, Livelihood, Effort, Mindfulness, Concentration.

Seems to me these traits would fit right in with Jesus' sermon on the mount.

15. You are so right. My son told his teacher many years ago that I was
Buddhist and the only thing she had to say to me about it was..."You don't believe in God????" She had about two weeks to look into what it is to be Buddhist before we had our Parent/teacher visit too. She went on to ask how a Christian could believe in Budhism.....lol

I told her about Buddha and about Jesus and how similar their teachings are, about how we share this earth and are one upon it, that we should care about each other and if one suffers we eventually all suffer with that one. She called me a communist...I told her that I liked her anyway...she wondered why anyone going to Hell would like her, a good Christian...I told her that I had, even as a child, a soft spot in my heart for dumb animals who knew no thing different...lol Boy, she got mad!

13. Basic one
My main moral is the Middle Way. No extremes. A balance of views and opinions.

Also, as a person helps themselves to become sucessful, they also help others for the same goal through mentoring, etc. It creates community which is vital nowdays.

14. They don't call us "bleeding heart liberals" for nothing...
They were talking about Jesus. We have the compassion for the poor and the least amongst us that Jesus had. That's where the term originated.
