Did George W Bush give Brian Lamb a call to support his SS plan?
The C-SPAN question this AM was " What would you do to fix Social Security?" Every guest has been on the subject of private accounts or Social Security. What is unusual about it is the amount of time and the manner in which the host, Connie Doebele, is handling the newspaper articles and the callers. Something smelled about the entire program. My antennae tell me that the White House may have made a little phone call to Brian Lamb to recruit his assistance in promoting Bush's privatization plan. I may be wrong, but that was I read from this morning's program...Very discouranging if something like that were happening.

1. I was listening to the show, too. More than their fair share of
wackos this morning, weren't there? Ol' Connie let people ramble on and on about their plan of indexing, multiplying, squaring to the 10th power or something to save Social Security. She got more than her fair share of Kool Aid drinkers but at least the program did point out there are plenty of alternatives to fixing the problem than just buying Chimpy's non-existent plan.

The last several weeks there seems to be a shift in the guests they have on the show. They are pulling out all the government and GOP wonks to argue the Chimp's and the party's line without any significant rebuttal by the hosts or the callers. Rove must have C-Span on speed dial.

2. But the whole premise of their program was how to "fix" SS....
and the promotion of private accounts...

3. Join the new DU group - CSPAN WATCH
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 10:43 AM by paineinthearse
We formed last week, see us in the GROUPS area.

By midnight, we post the next day's schedule with comments and information in the POLITICS forum.

When you log in, read the schedule to see what is happening. We alerted DU to the series if SS programs, but cannot make the horses drink the water.

Better yet, before midnight, read the schedule so you can pariciptate in CSPAN JOURNAL. If you cannot call, you can send an email hours ahead; better chance it will be read.

Go to http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=320 & welcome aboard!

4. What bothered me was the woman who is the SS Director - a trustee -
a government employee who gave me the impression that she was on the side of the President.

On the plus side...it was very obvious that THERE IS NO PLAN. That will be important to some practical listeners.

We need to get our leaders to refuse to comment about SS except to discuss what can be done for lost jobs (lost contributions to SS) and how to fix what needs to be fixed for 2042.

But, I'll repeat here - it was a good morning for me because it was clear that people are saying that there is no plan. But, I didn't get to hear it all.

5. She was appointed by Bush in 2001...
I think she said. She gave the same figures about the dire straits of SS that the Administration puts out. I think she was a plant.

6. Lamb is a corporatist Republican right-winger. He likely didn't need any
push. But he might have gotten a call from someone in the chain of command.

7. You're right but.....
there was just a little extra effort on the private accounts this morning, it seemed to me. That's why I thought, there might have been a call from someone at the WH? I may be wrong but that was the impression I got...
