How can "average" people tell the difference between "fake" & "real" news?
Since it has been reported that Karen Ryan and other reporters are reporting stories as news that the WH wants propagated to the public, how does the average person tell the difference? Reportedly, they are spending millions and millions of dollars on this propaganda effort. They say Clinton did the same, so why crack down on them?? Never mind that they are spending unheard of sums on Administration propaganda. What can people do about it? How do they even know it?

2. The average person will not be able to tell the difference
which is why government propaganda without attribution is specifically illegal.

This gang are all bidnessmen, used to lying to the public through misleading commercials. They're just extending smarmy bidness practice into government, and they consider themselves above the law.

Blowing the whistle on this stuff to everybody we know while chiding the "news" programs for being lazy enough to run this stuff instead of doing their damn jobs are essential right now.

The "news" can no longer be trusted at any level. Breaking through the childlike faith in a no longer free press is one of the things we have to do whenever and wherever we can.

"Aw, why bother, they're just spreading Bush's lies" is the only way to respond to a discussion of TV based current events.

3. Tell the FCC to STOP FAKE NEWS!
Tell the FCC to STOP FAKE NEWS!
Yesterday, The New York Times broke a major story outlining how the Bush administration has used millions of dollars of taxpayer money to produce and disseminate fake news programs that support their partisan political agenda.
These government-produced segments have frequently aired on broadcast TV stations across the country without proper disclosure.
Not only is this unacceptable, it is also illegal.
Take action today to help us Start Change:
Send a message to the FCC and ask them to STOP FAKE NEWS
In the end this is very simple.
Our broadcast television media operates on public airwaves.
We have rules about how these airwaves can be used.
We insist that the practice of local news stations airing government funded and produced propaganda without disclosure cease immediately.
Start Change Today: visit www.StopFakeNews.org and tell the FCC to stop the Bush Administration’s unlawful use of public funds for partisan propaganda.

http://www.stopfakenews.org/?tr=y&auid=761123

======
You can also Start Change by calling these national television networks and demanding that they adopt a policy by which any of their local television stations must clearly disclose the source of any "newscasts" that are actually produced by the government.
ABC Television: 212-456-7777
CBS Television: 212-975-4321
FOX Television: 310-369-3066
NBC Television: 212-664-4444
UPN Television: 310-575-7000
WB Television: 818-977-6878
Please remember to be firm but polite when you call.

5. Actually.... I think it pings a lot of people's bullshit detectors.
Mr. Pcat (who is not very political, though he listens to Democracy now most mornings) says that those VMRs ping his "Spam" detector, that basically, when he hears them, it mentally files in the same place as Nigerian Scams and Help find the missing kid email.

My not-at-all media savvy sister also tends to pick up on the fake news and call it bullshit. Small sample, yes, but I haven't had time to get a full scale, double blind study set up yet!

I think part of the issue is that very few people actually trust any media source anymore, so these just damage the credibility of any source that was still worth listening to.

9. They can't. They won't.
Hell, even for those of us who are awake, aware, and conscious, it's pretty damned hard.

I mean, you can argue with the content of a news story but (particularly today with the rise of Infotainment/Infoganda) how to be certain?

You can't know, and that is what ALL Totalitarians have relied on since long before they were even called that.

The Civilzed Person wonders and looks for evidence, analzyzes and postulates, while the Totalitarian Person steams right ahead, no questions, no compunctiosn "If THE PARTY and THE LEADER said it, it must be true."

And isn't THAT what the Bushevik who contemptuously referred to "The Reality-Based Community" were REALLY talking about.

Civilzed People have been struggling with this condondrum vis-a-vis Totalitarians since the beginning of organized human societies and maybe before.

The NEXT generation will ask the same questions of Amerika that we ask of Nazi Germany:

"How did they let it happen?"

"Everything Bush did was legal."

"What do you do when the people WANT to bew enslaved?"

"How could they NOT see through it and that THE LEADER was exactly the opposite as his Propaganda made him out to be (Noble and Godly)?"

They will ask, but the answers will remain a mystery, as they do today even to those of us sitting in the Bowels of the Beast watching the excrement accumulate.

10. Easy fake fake news presents Whitehouse & republican propaganda
as if it is REAL & GENUINE News.

Real news delivered by cnn faux nbc etc presents Whitehouse & republican propaganda as if it is REAL & GENUINE News.

So the first is fake fake news and the second is

Real fake news .....easy.

11. When they begin losing their jobs, or earn less income ... that ole'
bullsh*t detector will go off because they will take the time to LEARN the facts. Until then, typical human response when not challenged ... float along.

The MSM is turning off people to news by using info-tainment. FOX has "drama stories" that always end supporting the * Administration.

I'd venture to guess the average American does NOT watch much news and only 12% read the newspapers.

However, when their wallets begin to get fleeced, then the American sheeple will begin to awake from their complacency comas.

14. One red flag stands out for me
When the "reporter" doesn't bother to give credit to the news station which aired the propaganda. Such as, 'for (insert station here), I'm (imposter's name) reporting....and there's no mention where they're reporting from.
