possible VP choice in '08--Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana

Gov. Schweitzer is popular in the state and while Montana doesn't have a lode of electoral votes--he might be able to help carry it for the Democratic ticket. The Rocky West has been moving towards the Democratic party and while Kerry didn't win Montana he did improve on the 2000 democratic performance there. Schweitzer is not a fake rancher like Bush either and it is possible he could help elsewhere such as Nevada, Arizona and Colorado, all of which were close, but no cigar in 2004.

Just food for thought.

2. From what I know of him, he's on my short list for sure.

A lot can and will happen between now and '08, and personally I'm nowhere near ready to start speculating prospective tickets. But he's definitely worthy of a closer look; who knows, perhaps the winning strategy will be to write-off the bible-belt and go after the western states.

3. Not sure about 2008 but I think we should tap this guy in the future.

The guy doesn't take crap from anybody, and is more than willing to call out George Bush when he doesn't serve the people of Montana. I think that he should focus on Montana for now, but if the White House is open in 2012 (God forbid) this guy should run for the top position. He would bring hunters and ranchers back into our camp.

I like that the guy is practically an independent - he doesn't serve any political party. He honestly seems like a guy who is only interesting in serving and protecting the people who sent him to Helena.

Is there a Gov term limit in Montana? What about matching him up against Conrad for a Senate run? If he leaves office can the Democratic Lt Gov or Dem Attorney General win in a run for Gov?

I feel the prairie should be solidly blue. We are the ones that look out for them not the corporate republicans. I am just worried that if we take Schweitzer to DC we end up with a Repub running Montana. While that doesn't effect me in any way we gotta look out for the people of Montana too! We can't take their strongest Democratic politician in the state and ship him off to DC it probably isn't good for Montana.

8. He is a budget deficit hawk. Great to watch with his charts in Senate.

The term refers to those who handle money--like acccounts.
