"Why aren't we doing anything?"
My daughters are studying fascism and totalitarianism in school (Germany and Italy pre WWII) we we were having a conversation yesterday about fascism, war, this administration, the media, corporatism, etc and one asked:

"If we know all this about our government, we aren't we doing anything?"

Good question.

Even though I volunteered during the election and spread political info around to friends, it isn't nearly enough, given my views on the state of things. My daughter wanted to know why there aren't demonstrations, protests, angry mobs, boycotts, etc....SOMETHING SERIOUS that is commensurate with the threat that many of us believe exists.

So we're starting by heading to a March 19 protest and march.

Man....after a long discussion of the ills, scandals, blunders, crimes, and threats of this administration I realized what a good question it was. We forget, hearing about a new distracting outrage every day, how heinous and obscene the last 4 years have been taken as a whole and HOW DIFFERENT THINGS ARE locally, nationally, and globally compared to 5 years ago.

1. Because you need an opposing political party to do something
These current democrats want "work with" the fascist instead of opposing them on they're destroying this country. The good news is Howard Dean is telling them to stop this shit and they seem to be stopping this crap.

3. The whole Saddam Hussein trial will be a lesson in the tools of fascism
so look forward to that because Americans & Freepers will begin to recognize themselves in some of Saddam's methods. That discussion you had with your kids because they were learning about the topic of the tools of the sociopaths... that conversation will be happening all over the USA when Saddam goes on trial.

Saddam obviously used human rights crimes... etc. But much of what he did was propaganda, forced teaming, exhausting his public into apathy, shutting up the press, coercion, etc. etc.

Can you say "meme"?

5. I hope you're wearing your asbestos undies. People here are usually
happy to debate, but only if you don't start out by ridiculing them.

:hi:

9. Ow. That hit me in my intellectual leftist solar plexus.
Really, you wouldn't appreciate us going over there and spouting liberal talking points, would you? I gave it the once-over and saw very quickly that I did not belong there.

18. It was a rant from someone who signed up here to cause trouble.
He started out ranting about how horrid we are here at DU. He then referred us to his favorite website, which was called "Protest Warrior." It's a gathering place for RW types who like to break up lawful protests.

Welcome to ProtestWarrior.com, a website created to help arm the liberty-loving Silent Majority with ammo -- ammo that strikes at the intellectual solar plexus of the Left.

Bleh. You get the idea. :P

Protest Warrior? The guys who go around interfering with other people's right to publicly demonstrate their opinion? Yeah, real nice. Democracy in action.

And I would point out that you haven't provided any evidence for anything you've said, but as you haven't really said anything, I won't bother...

11. Apathy seems to be the operative word
I'm 52 and remember the 60's well. Good for you for trying to do something. How old are your kids? After the last election I pretty much gave up on the people in this country. I guess I have joined the rest of the country. Oh well...I think it is now up to the present generation to show some backbone.

13. There a quite literally millions upon millions of people "doing something"
The more involved you become,...the more people you will see who are exercising what power they have to stand up and speak out.

I promise!!!!

15. Yes, if one is out there doing something they are aware, otherwise
there is no way to know except through the internet. And the corporate media wants it that way.
