Big surprise.
It struck me this morning as I did some housework that the Republicans arguing for drilling in ANWR are arguing for a "stay the course" plan in regard to our energy policy. Let's not find new energy sources and plan for a future when we will indeed run out of oil. No, let's just keep going in the direction we are now, looking farther and farther afield for oil. ANWR by even the most generous estimates might last us another 30 years.
Why is that arguement not acceptable to them when we talk about Social Security. Why is adding money to the system not acceptable, but finding alternative ways of funding ones retirement is. The system does indeed have a gap in it that we will have to cover. The Dems have never denied that.
And yet they don't want to do the same for energy independance.
This was one of Kerry's better stump points. It used to get pretty good applause, the idea of developing better energy sources so we wouldn't be dependant on foreign oil. So why not fund cleaner coal research and the like. But no.
Anyway, just a few musings from me sans coffee. Let me know if it makes any sense.
