Repub. neighbor asks for answers to civic questions for daughter
who needs them answered for homework. Would DU help me give great answers to these questions? Especially the tax question.

Hi everyone,

Below are three short questions Mandy needs answered by this Thursday night for a Civics class. This should only take you one minute to do. Please just reply to this e-mail and answer the questions below. It will really help her. Put your name and age or (whatever age you want to admit to). She was told to interview 50 people.

Thanks in advance!
Darla

5. So short and so sweet, Thanks so much. I'm afraid if I hadn't
of asked here I would have gotten a little preachy with my answers. I really like your response.

6. My try.
1. Neither. When we go to war, we must go to war as a whole nation, or not at all. This war is for Republican interests, and Republican profiteering. It isn't for the United States. We need to leave, but the scars will not heal even then.

2. No. Neither do most Republicans. A man named Forbes ran in a Republican primary solely on a flat tax agenda. He was overwhelmingly rejected.

3. Yes. It is a vital national interest of the United States to have a healthy population. Privatized and profit-making healthcare is an embarrassing failure, except for the greedy CEOs involved.

1. Neither party would do right. We should have never gone into Iraq. Saddam was never and will never be Bin Laden.

2.A flat tax would hurt the poor.

3. Yes to universal health care.

11. THIS is passing as civics these days?? A bad CNN poll?
1. The war in Iraq is an illegal, immoral unprovoked invasion of a disarmed nation who did not do ONE thing to us.
2. Flat taxes benefit the rich ONLY
3. Absolutely. Privatized healthcare and managed healthcare is a disaster which is on the brink of collapsing.

13. ok-we all seem to be in agreement here
and that's no surprise, really

(1) no one should be 'in charge' of this war - it has been an illegal and dastardly event from the get-go: anyone who dares call themselves a 'christian' should be aghast at the insanity of this war and the unnecessary loss of life....hey - are you pro-life or not?

(2)It doesnt matter whther or not 'I like' flat taxes. It is a matter of whether or not they serve everyone equally - which is what this country is supposed to be about - and of course they do not. But the student shold become informed on this subject, and compare it to the current system and other systems, and make a critical decision regarding their opinion,,,,,,

(3) oh, c'mon. LOOK at the state we are in with healthcare. PULLEEZE.
We have a reponsibility, as a society, to make sure that those who are sick can access healthcare - insurance be damned! nothing else makes sense - It should be obvious, even to a high-schooler, that the system we now have is devastating to most families...and is an abomination. Shame, shame on this country for not making sure the sick recieve healthcare!

1. Neither. We should not have been there. The justifications have been proven to be lies, not exaggerations but lies. To go to war on a lie, to line the pockets of corporations is an impeachable offense. The current government needs to be impeached and if convicted, jailed.

2. A flat tax rewards the wealthy and shifts the burden onto the poor. 5% for a poor person differs greatly from 5% for a billionaire. Don't believe there won't be loopholes for billionaires. Flat taxes punish the poor.

3. Yes. Health care is a right. It should not be only available for the rich. The rich have set the agenda for America by buying influence in the Congress. Check the votes lately. Money shouldn't disenfranchise the poor. And, its Christian to step up to the plate and help the poor and those in need. Jesus commanded it. Too bad the republicans and others don't follow that.
